So I'm still waiting for a telephone line and ADSL. Called Telkom now and the first call centre person(Petella) refused to help me because they are not allowed to give progress related information. Called again and the second call centre person(Graham I think) confirmed that the expected date is only the 30th of November, so I'm guessing that I'll get a line sometime next year.

Can anyone give suggestions on an interim connection while I wait for a line? I've tried Sentech and iBurst, the coverage in my area is just non existant as I live on a wonderful little koppie(Meyersdal, Alberton area). I've considered 3G or HSDPA, but I reallllly don't want to commit myself to a 24 month contract.

Anyone have suggestion on what else to try?

Keep yourself busy phoning the telkom helpdesk. I promise you that it makes time fly by! :D :D :D :D

Use your 3G cellphone as modem with a monthly bolt-on data bundle.

(If speed is not important, a GPRS cellphone is also fine, and EDGE usually even better)

Any suggestions on phones with 3G support that are reasonably priced?

I can upgrade my handset in January next year so I don't really want to shell out a huge amount of money just to get a phone with 3G that I'm going to use until 1) I upgrade or 2) my fixed line is installed.

Hehe,

As per my original post, I am waiting for installation of a Telephone line AND ADSL.

Currently I mostly use the connection I have at my office. When I desperately need something at home however I use the gprs facility on my current phone, but this is a tiresome process as it stands, thus the reason for considering something else like wireless(which I can't get) or 3G...

I hear that vodacoms prices are commin down :)
took them long enough tho :(
