Hi

So for the past 2 years we have had the most annoying ADSL problem you could possibly experience. Our internet is intermittent.

It depends on the amount of devices connected to the network but while we are using the internet without warning the network will go down on both wired and wireless devices. The router still shows that the line is synced and that everything is working fine but we will not have internet access on all devices for a few minutes. I have contacted our ISP(MWEB) and they just log a fault with Telkom who send out a technician that says the line is perfect and nothing is wrong with it and they close the fault.

We have repeated this process for 2 years and i honestly cannot deal with it any more so i really hope that someone here can end our misery please.

Hi,

I experienced a Similar issue in the Past where i would be using my wireless router and the connections would suddenly drop and then after a few seconds reconnect... this wasnt the internet going down but rather the router going down and my connection to it was lost

First off, Most users are single connection like so they have to manage the multiple connections... in most cases they have to balance between all the devices connected but there is a limit to how many. I have even seen it in corporate environments where they use hardware not designed to handle the load...

I am not saying this is your issue but it would be a good place to start... since your ISP is claiming not to be at fault... I think depending on your hardware a good place is to start with 3 wireless connected devices and slowly add more until it faults or disconnects...

Before I cancelled my ADSL which was with MWEB i had a Netgear which after 2 years started acting up... i then took the free router from MWEB and all was well until christmas on year where everyone got tablets and came to connect to my wifi which wasnt an issue but it quickly became apparent that too many people were trying to connect to the Router causing connections to stall for everyone.

I actually cancelled my ADSL last month in Prep for Fibre... hated the MWEB Router but it was free at a time i needed it... To ensure going forward i wont have future issues i have bought a Multi User (MiMO) device that is designed to take more connections which i hope will do. (ASUS AC5300) here...

So just start with process of elimination... find out if there is a limit of people connected before everything drops... what you can also do is if you have a network connected PC or something run an active ping to see when things drop if your pings are affected... but i am sure its not the line as the router turns everything into that single connection and its limited by its speed where as your wireless router modem has to manage the multiple connections etc. My Router that i got from MWEB had a user limit between 5-8 somewhere before it would crash...

Thanks for the response XenitXTD. What i have noticed is that the internet would normally drop at around 7-9 devices connected to the network but once i turn the wifi off and only my PC and PS4 are connected via Ethernet cable the line would remain stable. I have a TP-Link Archer D2 Dual Band router which was pretty pricey would too many devices really be a problem for it? We also bought an Asus DSL-N14U Wireless-N300 modem router and the problem still persisted

Another thing is that when the network is down i can only ping and run trace routs to devices on my network. Further than that i get no response
