Hi Guys

I've been dealing with this problem for quite a while with telkom and we've never really come to a fix for it.

I need the line to be stable because of the nature of my job but unfortunately im not so lucky. It seems to disconnect @ random times throughout the day and go offline for around 10 mins or so. Initially through this year i noticed a pattern that this would happen mostly on a monday and then be fine for the rest of the week. However over the last 2 weeks it seems to be happening everyday of the week. It does it at least 5-8x during the work day from around 8am to 6pm when i sit here. I've reported this to telkom numerous times but all they tell me is they've tested it from their side and there is no issue from them to here. One of the call centre agents suggested i replace the filters on the phone lines as the 1's in the house are +- 4-5 years old. Can this really make a difference? I don't wanna go and buy them if its unnecessary, maybe someone has had a similar experience and can advise?

Kind Regards
Marco

Faulty Filters can cause problems with synching on ADSL. It may be worth a try as to get Telkom to fix a fault like this is going to take a lot of persistence. If new filters don't help. log a call, and keep calling Telkom religiously every day, keeping the original call open. This will ensure it will get escalated and you will then get more focused attention on the issue from them.

Thanks electron1, i think i will give the filters and shot and if that is unable to solve the issue, i'll need to keep bugging them daily! thanks

Have you checked your connections stats to see noise ratio and attenuation? If you can give that to Telkom it may assist them as well provided of course that they are not good. You can see suggested figures here
How many filters do you have? They are not usually very expensive. Maybe you could try swapping with a neighbour to jsut eliminate the filter as an issue.

Regards Tim
