Hi all

I'm having an intermittent disconnection problem whereby every day or so the router does not synch ... after a reset of the router it re-synchs ...

This is getting highly frustrating. Telkom have tested the line and 'supposedly' can find nothing wrong.

The router is a TELKOM POTS one ( one of the original makes that they distribtued at launch ) I don't think its a hardware issue on my side as I haven't had any problems whatsoever for ages up until now ...

Any idea as to what could be causing this that I can perhaps feed to Telkom's tech division so that I can attempt to resolve the issue ?

Thanks

IT MAY be hardware related. Had a similar issue with my first adsl modem from our friends at Telkom. try get someone else in the area to swap hardware with you for 2-3 days ... If they can spare it...

the other possibility is that there is a dud port on the DSLAM try get them to swap ports if all else fails ...

Just an update ...

Multiple issues were contributing to the problem:

1 - Lightning protector was causing errors on the line. By plugging the router directly into the line, the error rate dropped dramatically

2 - Router firmware was outdated. This was one of the initial Marconi modems ...

3 - Filters on the line were part of Telkom's initial batch and had not been modified ( they pop out a section on the actual circuit board )

So if anyone else is having similar problems you may want to try the above
