Intermittent Packet Loss

Hi all

I have been experiencing very intermittent packet loss throughout the day since about a week ago. It is difficult to pinpoint the problem as it happens at random times but I picked it up during online gaming (Assetto Corsa Competizione) where I get disconnected from the server and then realised that this must be why my Microsoft Teams sessions also freeze every now and then.

As mentioned very intermittent but quite frustrating when you are 40 minutes into a 90 minute race only to be disconnected. On day to day internet use, Netflix etc you dont really notice it obviously, but connection orientated apps you do.

Ticket logged with CISP on Thursday 25 June and as of this morning it was not even acknowledged by a technical support agent yet - called and was informed they will "start looking into it". Not great service if you ask me.

Interestingly my friend who also played on the same server on the same evening (also with CISP) also had a disconnect. Could it be a core network issue?

I am based in the south of Joburg and my friend is in Fourways.

Anyone else been seeing this?

Hi Douw, which fibre provider are you and your friend on?
 
We think we know what was causing this and should be resolved.
 
Douw, I'm down in Cape Town, and on the same SIM, and have the SAME **** via Frogfoot and Webafrica.. So about to take my bsuiness elsewhere, also have no response from my ISP etc.. so would be interested to know what it is, and what the answer is..

Got disconnected after 11 hours in this past weekend's Silverstone 12 hours! So, seriously peed off.. Pls let me know what the feedback is so I can try get someone down here to sort out the same issue..

No which fibre provider, SADV Vumatel etc :)

I dont think I mentioned - the server we connect to is hosted in the Hetzner DC in JHB.
We peer with Hetzner nationally at every peering point, so that shouldn't matter too much. I believe it was a flapping route on the path to NAP. Have you had any issues since the change yesterday?

Here is my WinMTR - Host 8.8.8.8 - ran it for almost 24 hours - seems like hop no 3 is where the issue lies with 10% loss.

Not really so loss along a path doesn't matter u less it compounds, it looks like there is 1% loss on your line to start with.

We are making a change tomorrow morning on the routes between Parklands and Teraco. So let me know from then.

Have been monitoring and things do seem to be better. I will continue to monitor. My race is tonight if I dont have any disconnects I will close the ticket tomorrow.
