Intermittent Web Africa Speeds

Hi

Before I log official tickets etc .. looking for some general feedback.

Recently upgraded from 4meg uncapped to 20 Meg adsl 2+ with 60 + 240 gig capped from WA.

I get good sync, and my speedtest.net results are 17M Down and 0.9M Up .. so my connection seems fine

I logged on 2 weekends in a row on xbox live, to turn on my xbox for downloads for xbox games I bought, so it could download between 12 and 6 so as not to burn my anytime cap. For some reason I was only averaging 600 - 700 megs an hour. I thought it might just be xbox .. but last night I also had a torrent to download that averaged around the same speed for 2 - 3 hours.

So I thought I should test using some more obscure speed test sites, and they reported between 1 - 2Mb/s as my download speed .. which was wierd ..

The behaviour really looks like Im being throttled, which is wierd for capped, and I wouldnt expect to be throttled to such low speed ...

Is anyone else having this behaviour, before I start buying comparative ISP accounts to test with ?

Get a free Afrihost account to test with.

I get full line speed (4mb - overhead) with that same account downloading whatever I want during that time (usually from news servers, but occasionally torrents)

I am on WA uncapped, and the last couple of months their speed sucks. On 10 mb, daytime surfing is slow, and don't even try to download anything. An 2mb file can take forever. Nighttime it gets better. I torrent from 11 - 6, and sometimes it gets totally blocked, not one thing gets in.

Got an afrihost capped account, an that is most times just as bad, funny its daytime better that WA, but nighttime is sucks

OK, so Im not alone ... pity .. Ive been really impressed with WA over the years I hope its not the beginning of a margin squeeze / overcontended network etc phase ...
