Is anyone experiencing international ADSL time-outs, I am attempting to connect to a mail server in Canada, but the trace route seems to provide time-outs on the MTN network via the UK.

Emails does come through, but only every now and then. Connection is not stable. I've tested from Cape Town, Paarl and Newlands, different ADSL connections, although all of them is with different ISP's, all are on the IS backbone, not any on SAIX.

Are you sure the mail server isn't overloaded? I am having no issues lately on international on Afrihost.

As mentioned, the ADSL trace route is giving time-out via MTN network via UK, before it gets to the server in Canada. It is not all international, just this specific connection to Canada.

Server is heallty.

Think that is a Canadian site, can open it np. Pm me the ip of your server and I'll ping it as well?

208.43.193.117, just pinged it from 4th connection, also time-outs, but also IS backbone/Afrihost.

Try a trace route, it should give the time-outs in UK/MTN.

Thought Afrihost/axxess uses MTN backbone, the rest uses IS, e.g. mweb.

Edit: yeah, getting timeout on when it tries to hop from ls-pr-1.uk-a.mtn.net to the piece after it. Going to ask a friend in Europe to tracert it.

Edit: he is also getting a timeout, it's not Afrihost it seems.

There is something wrong with that route, mainly with MTN network but Telkom seeing some loss too.

Thanks, defenitely seems to be somewhere around UK where the problem is. Switched the client to MWEB/IS, problem solved.

I am using Afrihost (MTN) and when doing a trace route to sipgate.de (Germany) there is 60%+ packet loss on hop 8. So it must be a MTN problem, switching to my MWEB account the trace route is perfect.

MTN/Afrihost ****ed at the moment. Routing from MTN to IS goes international as well.
