ok, i start the month with my 3Gigs and i dont go to any international sites, does it still eat at my 3Gigs?

and

can i save my 3gigs for when im only using interational sites?
thanx

the question you need to ask mr anderson is what is international and what is local ... remember many "local" sites are hosted internationaly thx to telkoms high prices ...

I was hoping to find some discussion like this.

I find it very strange that Telkom count both national and international traffic towards your 3GB cap. If international traffic is the bottle neck, i.e. if that is what is costing Telkom money, then they should stimulate people to avoid international usage.

I download all my linux software from the local mirror at ftp.is.co.za

Previously I downloaded several gigabytes of data without this showing up on my usage charts. This month it does suddenly get added to my total usage. I'm quite sure Telkom has changed something along the way.

Really Telkom should be stimulating users to switch to national sites if they can, thus they should not count national usage towards the 3GB cap.

I wish I could tell someone at Telkom this!!

Sander.

I hate to say it though, I'm 100% sure that outgoing counts towards the cap...

Total Bandwidth = Incoming + Outgoing (both local and int).

When your total bandwidth reaches 3 gigs it's officially game over on all international browsing.

when i was at telkom the cap would be triggered if either in/out hit 3gb i know there was talk of adding it together and i belive this it what they have done ...

i did try tell them how stupid this all was

All Usage Received and Sent counts towards the Cap.

Initially when ADSL came out it was only Received Usage that counted to the Cap. However Telkom changed this unilaterally without consultation. One of the points in the ICASA Complaint BTW.2004 ICASA complaint
