International down again?

You can't be amazed. It happens lately every day. I suspect some sabotage from a much-reviled company controlling our bandwidth.

I still have international access on SAIX. IS local is dead, and my IS account doesn't connect. This is a truly a big f********up

Yep a major fup, I have never before seen IS go down like this, has to be either a huge hardware failure or a physical network break somewhere causing a complete network shutdown.

Very odd.

It is VERY strange. I was first alerted to this by my partner who is currently in Germany. So even the international link is down. I'm currently imagining every router at IS popping at the same time ;)

Having local and International problems.... some sites work, and some dont....

or the cleaning lady tripped over some cables :P But most of the .co.za domains are down even on saix i cant access them

Looks like a bandwidth crunch is being engineered for us. All my ports except port 80 are down and I have a SAIX account (SAOL). I have noticed last month that download speeds in the latter part of the month is much better than in the first part. So either there is a genuine bandwidth shortage in SA due to lack of infrastructure investment or somebody is manipulating the bandwidth availability in the beginning of the month in order to justify very low caps (Telkom/SAIX anyone?).

Throughout all this, speeds on Telkom account (torrents only) rose to 75KB/s, seem to have dropped to 43 now, but still going strong.

From what I believe it was one of the IS DNS servers or access to the DNS servers that went belly up for a while which mean names could not be resolved .. I could access certain IP addresses fine.

Much more than just a DNS issue, from the limited information I got, it was a Telkom issue in Rosebank.

Same here - I'm on UUNET and while international is fine some sites like News24 wont load, others like MyADSL are just fine. Peering issue?
