International not loading

Unfortunately that tidemedia site must be in international. Can't get in. How does one set up the proxy thing? (sorry for the dof question, I don't know much about networking).

Assuming your'e using Internet Explorer, Go to Tools>Internet Options>Connections Tab (at the top)>LAN Settings>Proxy Server (section at the bottom), tick the :use proxy server" box, put "cache.saix.net" in the address box and 8080 in the port box. Leave the "bypass" box unticked.

Ja, no int here in Cape Town as well, made my client freak out when i went and did their adsl installation, and they could not connect to int sites. Makes me look bad because i suggested the whole thing. Bad timing:(

Thank you warped, it worked for me!!!!
Saved me a deep poo problem too.

I used dsl-cache.saix.net, port 8080 as a proxy and that works too. It seems to be a protocol related issue as my IMAP and SSH connections to overseas servers are not exhibiting any issues.

Tried that as well (after enabling port 8080 on Smoothwall) but then local sites don't work as well:(.

Edit: International seems to be back up here.

Still having issues this side, our staff have basicall given up trying to access the net for the day.

Maybe if I burn incense tonight and pray to an idol it will be alright tomorrow. Maybe I can also stick pins into a voodoo doll of Telkom

IE user? Hell no! I'm a militant Mac user. ;)

I figured it out in Firefox and it seems to be working, but now I have a question: what exactly is happening if I use this proxy? Am I looking at cached pages? Will I be able to upload images to one of my websites using it?

My international mail and FTP seems to be working.

not loading in benoni either - I thought we had reached our cap again?

Yes you are. Unless the actual website has parameters that tells the cache server not to keep it.

Even though the cache server is a solution if you can't access sites directly, my problem is that if you use any login details on those sites, it now passes through the cache server as well; not great if you're security conscious.

Anyway, this problem has now been going on all day, yet I don't see a single SAIX network notice referring to it. Weird.

Finally:-

Notice Ref : NN0001460
Failure Type : Fault Condition
Status : New
Problem Description : Software - Durban Cache Server
Impact : All clients may experience slow browsing in the Durban area
Time Down : 2008-08-26 15:57
Sites : Durban
Affected : All Clients

Of course this does not tell us when it will be fixed, but at least they have acknowledged the problem.... ;) And they need to re-title Time Down to Time We Admitted That We Had A Problem

Most international is intermittent for me - Cape Town / SAIX. The proxy helps, but I don't want to have to rely on it.

International has been down most day for me.

The proxy works and is the only way for me to get international sites loading today.

Why the hell couldnt they just come out and say it right from the start. I have been having problems since Saturday, and have even replaced my router on advice from a clueless Telkom idiot.

I'm fecking miles from Durban and my international access was down for most of the day while local appeared to be intermittent. I'm so tired of telling customers that I can't sort out their ADSL problems while SAIX is poked yet again! For the record I normally use Axxess but today I tried MWeb, Telkom and Atlantic and none of them had consistent local access and there was no international access at all. 3 of them use the SAIX backbone, I don't know about MWeb.

I think I want to apply for a job as a street sweeper with the Kouga Municipality. They earn far more than I do, they only work when the weather is nice and they have a medical aid and pension. The biggest bonus would be that I wouldn't have to deal with Telkom!!

Now all of a sudden it doesent work for me nomore and i forgot my original Internet Settings.

I hate Telkom
