International Roaming?

I was lead to beleive that 3G has international roaming activated by default. And that if you go to the UK as an example, and download there it would form part and parcel of your data cap.

However I see that it says my class type is National, so I assume that means international roaming is not activated. :confused:

The main reason for me switching from the competition to 3G, besides problems with the competitions "soft phase", was that Vodacom 3G offered me access from the UK where I travel alot.

Can someone confirm/deny the details above?

P.S. So far I have been using 3G for 4 days, and it FAR FAR FAR exceeds the reliability and performance of other "soft phase" products. :D Whenever I have wanted a connection I have got it first time every time, and zero frustrations..... that is of course up until now. So don't let me down Vodacom

u can roam internationally obviously in countries where vodafone resides as a network.Call the call centre to change ur class
 
The roaming business rules for a normal cellphone contract and 3G cellphone contract are the same. Although roaming is a service offered to both our normal and 3G contract customers, they are not provisioned automatically to use this service.

Each cellphone Service Provider has their own business rules when it comes to the activation of roaming, some more strict than others. Please check with your SP.

The business rules employed by the Vodacom Service Provider Company (VSP) are as follows:

If the contract age is less than 6 months, the customer will need to pay a deposit of R5000 before roaming can be activated. The only exception to this rule is if the customer has an existing account with VSP that is older than 6 months, and the number requiring roaming is simply an “ad-on” line. Roaming can only then be activated without a deposit, although there is still the disclaimer explaining charges etc. which needs to be accepted by the customer.

The 1 GB bundle, or any other data bundle cannot be used whilst roaming. The customer will be charged according to the Foreign Networks 3G/GPRS data rate whilst roaming. Simply comparing our tariffs to any roaming partner’s data tariffs will show the logic behind this policy.

on vodago u can roam in namibia only for now but u have to buy vouchers in sa b4 going to namibia

You can roam with prepaid in any network that supports CAMEL. There are currently still compatibility issues so currently Vodacom subscribers can only roam in Namibia. Appears be IN issues as there is inbound roaming with VFUK.
 
Vodacom3G, thank you for your reply, however :

1. Is it not false advertising that you now display your "new coverage area" being a map of the world. As if it is standard international roaming then you have always had it.

2. I suggest you send an URGENT memo out to all your dealerships explaining to them the policy you have explained to me. I specifically asked this question before signing up and was told that it was activated by default and that the data would come out of the bundle. Therefore I subscribed to the contract with incorrect information.
 
Vodacom prepaid customers can roam in Namibia, Mozambique, Tanzania and Kenya.

Contract roaming is obviously much more extensive.

This is the current International Roaming Status:

GSM: ----- 296 Networks in 151 Countries
GPRS: ---- 46 Networks in 28 Countries
PrePaid: -- 4 Networks in 4 Countries
3G: ------- 1 Network in 1 Country

Harley, I think you will find the advertising was more to do with the Vodacom / Vodafone partnership, and not 3G specifically.

I also think that I should have words with Toyota, because their advertising suggested that "Everything Keeps Going Right", but I discovered after buying my car, that I actually need to switch the thing on if I want it to go somewhere !!! What misleading advertising (Being cheeky here). However I think you are right to be upset with the dealer if you were mislead by him.
