Hi Guys, I'm looking for a bit of advise and help from you guys,.
Basically I live in the U.K. and will be in S.A. from Dec.to April (I have S.A.connections....long story) and will need to get hook up to the net.
I will be located on the E.Rand near the E.R.M. (Barttlet AH) and according to map coverage I should be in a "Fair" area for Iburst.
Now for some questions:

Option 1.
Subscribe to Iburst month 2 month contract.
My laptop is wireless enabled but will I still need a Iburst modem?
I have seen Iburst modems for sale on Gumtree, if I buy one privately will it work or is there some sort of Iburst code for each modem?
Which modem is best ...USB or PCIMA?
If I get a modem from Iburst (R1820) is that a one off payment and not a hired unit?
I have tried asking Iburst but get no answers just a application form to start a contract.

Option 2.
I don't know much about 3G but would this be an option and is it expensive?
What would I need for 3G ?...a card/modem?
Is 3g available as month 2 month? and from who?

Option 3.
Use an internet cafe

Sorry for all the questions as no doubt they have been asked before, I did start reading the forum pages (is Iburst REALLY that bad?) but there is so much and my time is quite limited before I get to S.A.
Thanks for any info/suggestions and please note I am not very computer literate so I would appreciate any answers not too technical.
Regards Brian

Rather click on the Classifieds link of this forum and look for a Vodacom USB modem, +/- R 1.5 K (£99) and buy monthly prepaid vouchers via Vodacom or any fuel station, grocery shop.

You will save yourself much frustration and cash.

Please be aware local bandwidth access speeds resemble dial-up connectivity compared to Europe. Although ISP's in this country advertise speeds close to 4 Mbps, the reality is much different, with most adverts being withdrawn after warnings of sanctions from the advertising authorities.

Most consumer ISP's deliver access speeds between 250 Kbps - 450 Kbps during peak hours. iBurst would be on the lower scale of this range with severe port filtering/blocking.

Regards

M
