I have just retired and we are planning to go on an extensive caravan trip around South Africa starting mid January ending around mid October.

Currently I am using Telkom DSL, Telkom as ISP, to access the internet, banking and email.

Obviously I will need an alternative method to do so while travelling. I've looked around on mybroadband, searched around various sites for suggestions and in the end came back to mybroadband as it still is an excellent community always willing to participate and help.

I'm taking my laptop (wireless with internal modem) and cell phone (Nokia N70) with and would appreciate any suggestions and help that I can get as to what is best, what I will need and how to set it up before leaving and best service provider to use. I'm realy looking for the best option that will give me closest to what I'm used to at the moment. As time is getting short I need to get cracking in setting up before leaving.

I have a satellite dish to pick up DSTV where ever I go with the caravan but don't think that will be of any use in accessing the internet.

your laptop and cellphone will be all you need to connect to Vodacom 3G (does your N70 do 3G?) or whichever cellular provider. If you really want faster speed go for Vodacom 3G. But for basic e-mail and web-browsing your laptop and cellphone should be just fine. Vodacom has the biggest nationwide coverage.
