Looking to get internet.
Been looking at 2mb uncapped ADSL but would have to install line with router etc and it can be a bit expensive.

I have good Telkom Mobile reception as well so that is also an option.

What would you recommend? Going to be used for gaming, downloads, etc.

I think the uncapped is the best solution but I'm unsure of the process. Do Telkom have to come install something or can they just use the existing home phone line? I can do all the filter and router stuff...

Or their capped product then pop on that add on. Data used after 12 is not counted towards your cap.

AFAIK, they just connect your copper pair at the exchange to allow ADSL, and you can do the router and filter(s). Its very basic.

I suggest going with a Afrihost business account, even 1Meg is perfect for gaming and downloading simultaneously.

R1000 for a proper Wi-fi router then R397 all* included per month (AH Business 1Meg)

*Except Voice line

1) I went through this recently. I went to a Telkom store 2 weeks ago and took the 2meg uncapped package where you get a router and a dongle. Line installation is free if you take a 2 year contract, which I did. It costs R529 I think, check the website.

2) The guy came to my apartment yesterday to install the line and set everything up for me.

3) Once everything is done, you have to phone 10210 and wait approximately 30 minutes for an agent to help you activate your account.

Its as simple as that.

The first thing that you must do if you want to download on this account is download Internet Download Manager. It would also help if you bought a 1 month or so account from uploaded.com.

My download speeds are reaching 235kbps on this line.

The Telkom Simple deal (including installation, modem, and free 3g dongle) can be had WITHOUT a 2 year contract. Try speak to the people at your local telkom store as well as on the 10210 line and make sure you get it without the contract, as this will be your best deal in terms of getting ADSL without any upfront costs. A friend of mine and I both got up and running using this, I'm with Afrihost and he with MWEB now.

Definitely take a Telkom uncapped simple package. Free installation. Free router.

I think would be the best for you.

So they just give you a free router without signing a contract? I only need it for 1 year.

Yip. No contract. Just have to keep the telkom simple package for a minimum of 3 months.

I will be paying for ADSL line and uncapped, is that the R514 and then the phone line is extra?

All inclusive in the R514. You also get a free usb dongle with 200mb data per month for a year. A closer plan is also included in the package where you get free calls after 7 and on weekends.

So I would pay less than R514, i. e. Only the ADSL line and data is less than R514?

The only way you're going to get a free router is if you take a telkom simple package and if you want it to be uncapped, then it's R514. There is the 5GB simple package for R399. Free router and installation with that as well.

Cool. Free router isn't much of an issue, just looking for the best way to do this. I can always buy a router.

Just don't know how to separate the voice rental data rental and data bundle.

Well with the simple deal, you can just cancel any part of it after 3 months and then it ceases to be considered a bundle. Can move both your ISP and DSL rental or whatever you want at that point.

Thanks, and is Telkom still the best option for the data portion? I know other places have it cheaper but they throttle etc.

So Iam still in my 7 day period with my 2meg uncapped package. Do you guys think I must change anything? should I cancel or...I dont know, any suggestion?

That Telkom deal is really cool. I didn't even they give you a free dongle with the 200mb internet per month.
