Internet alternative for online play Ps3

Hey guys

So I am about to buy a ps3 but I mainly want to use for online play and to play with my buddies.

Now with that said, Adsl is out of the question because the area I stay in can't get Adsl.

Anybody have any alternatives or tips? I'm looking at speeds between 3-4mbps , can be capped it doesn't matter.

I was told I should try 3G. Would 3G or Hsdpa be good enough for online play? Looking to play Battlefield 3. what are the pings like for servers mainly based in Europe?

Anyway, any tips or feedback from somebody who has tried this would be appreciated.
