Solution - IPv6 linux router/firewall, IPv4 network behind that router/firewall
Besides, a lot of companies will still be using XP, and they'll be able to connect to the IPv6-based internet via this means.

Nevermind computers which are still relatively easy to shift. GPRS modems and whatnot are way more difficult to move to IPv6 and there are many, many of them in circulation, doing mission critical stuff.
All in all, I wouldn't worry about it.
I thought the Wiki article said its compatable with any platform? I'm sure once the space ACTUALLY runs out, someone in the backgroud will convert IPv4 to IPv6 without any of us even noticing...lol, like last night's South Park episode...the Internet was down, the internet was a blueish machine, lol, they tried to communicate with it by playing some sort of bandpass piano! And then the Internet did not communicate back, and the guy from the presedency got fed up, and shot warning shots at the Internet...classic!

There is only address space for 4 billion IP addresses with the current internet protocol version (IPv4). The most optimistic studies reckon it will run out in 2012.
Its not to say that old IPv4 stuff will completely stop working when the transition is made, but it might be quite ghetto. Similar to setting the date on your computer back to 1984 when your PC has the millenium bug.
So what I'm saying is the change is imminent, and if you're buying new networking hardware don't stuff thats not IPv6 capable.
We don't know what will happen, but you'll probably be better off with IPv6 compatible hardware.
Will an old IPv4 ADSL router work on an IPv6 internet if an IPv6 PC dials up a PPPoE connection through the ADSL modem in bridge mode? (should work?) maybe a lot of people will do that.

Exactly, so people buying new hardware (most specifically a router) should not buy IPv4 stuff.

Actually, we know exactly what will happen when address space runs out, as I'm sure a lot of network admin have had to deal with the situation in a network. IP conflicts will happen, or you just won't get an IP, and thus you won't be able to communicate on the network.
