Hi,

I get scam emails every now and then, relating to internet banking... asking for details etc. Often with links that look legit, but it you "mouse-over" the link, you can see it is bogus.

Of course I just delete them... but I was thinking, what is stopping me from following the link, and entering bogus information. If everyone that got these emails did this, the scammers would have to wade through so many bogus details that it would probably not be worth their while to follow up? So then if someone did get scammed, their details would be amongst 1000s of bogus details. Basically flood the scammers...

Can anyone think of a reason not to do this? Besides the fact that is wastes a bit of time...

Cheers
Greg

I quite often respond to 419 scammers, but when clicking on those banking ones the links are usually already reported and ie/firefox block them.

I sometimes do send them some bogus detail, but yes usually when I get the mail the site is already taken down. I get many from "Absa" and don't even have an Absa account.

Can't remember but there's a whole site dedicated to scamming these scammers - people playing along, leading them on as long as they could & wasting their time etc.

Yeah it was mentioned in another thread here somewhere as well. Very funny, they even got the scammers to mail them a picture of the scammer holding up boards saying stuff :D
