Hi,

I'm looking for some advice on a basic gaming PC. What specs to you recommend for the machine.

I've got an internet cafe, and want to start offering Gaming. Can you make any suggestions of what I can put together.

:erm:

Budget?
Games that will be played?
Other uses for the pc's?

budget in minimal... probably going core duo... but want to able to play the latest games networked... for customers.
otherwise just surfing and odd office files.

If you're looking for the minimum, get something like an Hd 4650, pentium dual core like E5400, a cheap g31 mobo and 2 gb of ram.

Also, speak to the dude at ZAPS and hear if it is worthwhile. IIRC, they charge like R50/hour, but I don't know if they are that busy.

damn R50 per hour is steep.

a lot of new games dont have lan either :(

my cuz told me they are, he says they are pretty big too

I think it depends on what you classify BIG as, cause IIRC, last time I was there, they had like +-10 pcs.

hmm....he told me they had a whole floor full of them, and it was a lot more than 10 iirc

I could have heard wrong though...lol

I used to work for a decent internet cafe in Maritzburg which in it's time became the place to come and lan for guys whose gaming pc's weren't up to scratch. Our charges were R15 for 1 hour, R25 for 2 hours and then R50 for 5 hours. We were in a central location for a lot of schools and the University so a lot of guys would come after school or between lectures. We also sold snacks and stuff at basically cost price so guys used to love gaming there. At it's peak we had 24 gaming machines and 8 office pcs.

You don't need the latest machines, but at current prices, you'd probably be spending a minimum of R6k per machine, to make them relatively future proof.

Decent screen R2k
Decent gfx card R2k
Rest of the bits and pieces R2k

I recommend you get in touch with Valve and sign up for their Internet Cafe subscription service which gives you access to almost the entire steam library for a monthly fee.

But just as a warning, unless you already have a demand for gaming, I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a lot of $$$ to spare.
