As one of those who does most of his surfing via internet cafe's. I have come to realise that every now and then internet cafe's owners have to format their computers due to virus infections, they have tried all solutions to this problem from deep freeze, antivirus systems and the like.

This is a business opportunity to those who can come up with a solid solution to this problem as there are over 50 internet cafe's in the pretoria cbd.

i am trying to coax some of them to use linux ubuntu as it is almost virus free and most viruses found on windows dont work on linux. but the idea is not finding some takes due to the fact that they fear alieanating their customers.

Some members of society don't have any shame when it comes to watching pr0n in public

Yes. I went to one of our local internet cafes recently to download something, the downloads folder was full of kiddy porn

Meh its simple, they just serve the connections to the client pc's via terminal service and host the sessions in virtual machine snapshots. All they have to do is revert the snapshots whenever they want and its problem solved.

Now you're just making up words.

Yes thin clients + virtual desktops might be a way. How many desktops do they have per branch?

I would snuck a couple of Ubuntu's/OpenSuSE's/Mint installs on there and see if $customer will notice...

But if Windows is the way to go :

1. Proper firewall blocking xxx sites (and other nawty sites) ~ Smoothwall with URL Filter and Advanced Web Proxy
2. Limited accounts on all the workstation(s).

Licensed and configured Deep Freeze by Faronics, problem solved, only way it won't work is if it's done wrong
