When I download/browse or do whatever you do online, it will download fine for a min or 3 and then drop to 0kBs, so I pause it and try to resume a few minutes later and it runs fine for a few mins again then it drops to 0 for a while again. I've tested the router on another line and it works fine. I've changed all the filters. Is this a telkom issue or what? Router also seems to disconnect a whole lot.

PS I am not referring to torrent download speeds just various web downloads and browsing sites.

So I swopped my Billion router to the stock standard backup Telkom branded DuoPlus300 and now its working like a charm, no bottleneck, no frequent line sync lost, nothing.

Its a basically new Billion router as well... googled it, seems ppl have had similar problems in the past with it, haven't found a decent solution yet.

Mweb pavillion said router is fine, they not replacing it

I have the exact same issue as Jhbgirl.

Any download drops to zero every few minutes, then starts up again.
This is painful, because you get logged out of servers, after a while, and struggle to get back in (no torrenting).
Especially downloads from google play is painful, and takes forever(over the wifi).
The modem does not seem to loose sync, downloads just dropout, and start again.

I have a 4mg line, and a MWEB, uncapped subs.
I have done the following:
1.Tested with Afrihost account, same issue.
2. Replaced modem. Same issue (tested both modems at work, both worked perfectly, no drops)
3. Replaced filters on lines.
4. Disconnected all extensions and instruments(and filter), have only line to modem.
5. Contacted MWEB. They sent me to Telkom.
6. Logged with Telkom. Tech came out, and tested this and that, eventually swopping some cables at the exch, and resetting ports and whatnot, telling us there is no problem on the line.
The SNR and attenuation is is great, according to all guides available.

So, where to go now?
I am thinking of ordering three or four new adsl lines, hoping that Telkom will run out of cables, and HAVE to put new wire to my house. Seems expensive and excessive route, but I am out of options.

Is there no Professional IT company that can investigate and assist, for a fee, residential ADSL issues?

I live in Centurion.

Not yet because the last time I requested that it took them 3 weeks to figure out what I want and they reset it to like 1MB instead of our 4MB and then couldn't understand what line sync speed meant and how to change it. I'd rather deal with telkom as a last resort.

Why not PM their MyBB rep (TelkomZA) and ask him to help?

For a "quick" diagnose, plug your hubby's laptop or pc into the SAME router and see what happens...if its NOT as slow as yours...check for viruses...THIS way youll know if the prob lies INSIDE your PC, or outwards FROM your pc...meaning line, router, Telkom or ISP...
