Problem: Possible routing issue on my desktops.
Internet connection lost when using wireless USB on 3x gaming desktop PCs and only appears using Vista 32/64bit, Windows 7 32/64bit. No problem when using Ubuntu Linux (all versions). A connection only lasts 8-12 hours after which I have to reset. Wirekess LAN is Ok and never an issue. Only issue is with wireless internet.
I've had this issue for more than two years. I never had this issue when I used Win XP. I also don't wanna go back to XP. I love 64bit Windows 7.
Connecting my desktop PCs with Vista/Win7 machines and cabled to a router, no issue, internet connection is fine. Problem is only wireless. I have reformatted, reinstalled Windows Vista/7 several times and only used barebone install, drivers supplied on CDs from manufacturer but issue does not go away. No VPN, No Teamviewer, no Logmein.com, just basic barebones install.
My router is on DHCP, I have also tried using different routers - wireless ADSL and wireless cable routers. I have not tried with static IPs.
My workaround is:
Command prompt: route delete 0.0.0.0
I then remove the USB wireless stick from USB port and put it back. Connection resumes and all is fine for another 8-12 hours. I have to do this every time I restart my machines. As you can guess I have no internet connection after restarting my machines, can't do any remote networking over internet.
In the past (not now) from the command prompt I've used the DevCon command to disable/enable the wireless USB device without physically having to remove it. I made script that executed during startup and then a schedule for every 8 hours. This is not a fix as I want the issue to go away permanently !
The issue also appears no matter what brand of or version USB or speed (Wireless B, G, N), no matter what motherboard, hardware, connection type (ADSL, cable router, WISP) or physical location. When using my laptops I do not have this issue. My three laptops of different models and ages (one is Acer Aspire 2920 with 4Gb RAM) uses different brands of internal wireless (Atheoros, Intel etc). No one else seem to have this issue. The only time I don't have an issue is when all my desktop PCs are wired to my router.
From command prompt I have also done a route print, which gives something like below. Note this is from my laptop, no issue. As an example I've added in bold the routing as displayed on my desktops prior to deleting the specific route.
C:\>route print

How do I/which file do I change the routing permanently so that the routing doesn't get lost and get rid of this issue forever, or as long as my current Windows install ??
