I need help form the clever people.

I have a desktop with no wifi connection (running Win 7) Its too far form the Wif Router to connect it with a cable.

I have a laptop (running Win 10). I use these two machines in the same room and I would like to share the internet connection with my desktop.

Is it possible and how do I do it if it is?

Thanks in advance

Cheap usb wifi adapter for the desktop?

Not 100% sure...never used one. You got it so may as well try.

Now that I think about it. I have a Wifi Extender that I got from MWeb. It's got a ethernet connection. Will that work if I connect the desktop to that with a ethernet cable?

Yup, that should work. I have a setup like that, my router is in my kitchen and I have a wife-extender with lan ports in my office that connects all my wired machines to the network.

You can share your Internet connection from your desktop - I did it many years ago. It is not ideal and I cannot remember the exact steps, but when you share your connection, the laptop will become DHCP server with the IP range 192.168.137.0/24 - it needs to stay in this range.

I will see when I get home if I can figure it out again.

I see, you actually posted the steps :p

Make sure your desktop is set to obtaining IP automatically (from DHCP) - if you make use of static IP's - you probably will need to assign it in the range 192.168.137.0/24

Spend R100 and get a Wifi dongle and save yourself all this drama.

I'm not using the Mweb Modem anymore though. Is the repeater configured for Mweb or should it work with any modem?
