Hey everyone. Sorry 4 posting but this is my last throw of the dice. Iv searched these forums and the interwebs and havent been able to solve my problem.

Im trying to share an internet connection my laptop is using . My laptop connects to the internet via a wireless network. The connection sets the Ip automatically.

Now I connected my desktop to my laptop using a peer to peer cable (i think) and can only get the network running if I manually configure the ip adresses. When I try to share the internet connection using the lan, windows automatically changes the ip of the laptop ,which then conflicts with the wireless routers ip, thus losing my internet connection. Iv tried downloading those 3rd party software to no avail. you help would go a long long long way.

Im no expert, but give more details. Why dont you connect the desktop to the router then it will automatically assign an ip using dhcp...

its a wireless router which i have 2 connect wirelessy 2. that make anysense?

desktop <----> laptop

IP Addresses: Set the laptop's IP to 192.168.0.1 and the desktop to 192.169.0.2. Set gateway to 192.169.0.1 on both.

ICS requires that the sharing machine's IP (laptop) to 192.168.0.1.

Reboot laptop then desktop after setting the IP addresses.
