Internet connection sharing - whats gone wrong?

The scenario:

1x iBurst USB modem
2x Windows 7 laptops.

I share my iburst connection with my brother, but he only got his laptop recently, so before this, one usb modem was fine.

I originally set up an ad-hoc wireless connection on my laptop, to which he connected. I enabled the iburst connection to be shared and all was perfect. Then suddenly it stopped working a few days ago, and now I cant seem to get it right again.

I still have the adhoc connection on my laptop to which he connects. But under that connection it says "no internet access".
I think its just some setting that isnt right... am i supposed to enable internet connection on the adhoc connection or the iburst pppoe connection?

Enable it on the iBurst PPPOE connection, and also select the field that says "Allow other computers to control this connection".
I Presume that the laptop with the iBurst modem connected to it is the DHCP server?
If not, make sure the IP of the main laptop is the default gateway on the second laptop...

Or save yourself the hassle and get a wireless router and a desktop modem.
The USB modems can be a real pain-in-the-@ss...

I have a similar setup with a similar problem.

I have 2 pc's connected using a wireless peer to peer network. The internet connection sharing on the "host" pc stops working every now and then.

The only way I have been able to get it working again (I have done this many many times), is to disable internet connection sharing on the host pc, and then to re-enable it. This seems to reset everything on the wireless network and allows the 2nd pc to connect to the net through the wireless network.

The problem isn't specific to a wireless network. I say this because I used to have exactly the same problem when I was using Ethernet to connect the two pc's.

I found that to share the iburst connection, I needed to set the host ip to 192.168.0.1 (on windows XP) in order for internet sharing to work - then of course you set any other ips on the same range using 192.168.0.1 as the gateway.

I'm curios, should your network range be the same as the Iburst modems IP? I use a wireless access point, with the iburst modem connected to the AP through a LAN cable, and then I just make and share the internet connection though my PC.

Problem is, I have to use STATIC IP's, because the AP is just stupid and I'm a noob... So, i take it the PC IP is the gateway IP? What IP adress does the IBURST modem have then?

PS, my android phone and PC both connect to the WIFI network, it's just the internet connection doesnt want to share over to the phone :-(

Your iBurst modem doesn't need an IP address in order for you to make a PPPoE connection. PPPoE works over Ethernet, but it does not use TCP/IP.

The PC that establishes the PPPoE connection and has Internet Connection Sharing enabled will be the gateway. When you enable ICS, Windows will assign a static IP address to that PC (normally 192.168.0.1). If this PC is always switched on your other PCs should pick up an IP address through DHCP running on the ICS PC.

Do you want to give the iBurst modem an IP address for monitoring purposes?
