I've been unable to sustain the internet connection stably. Only way to reconnect is to go through the router setup manually. I imagine it's a settings issue? I'm on telkomsa Do-Broadband (default ip = 192.168.1.1) I've done nothing in the terminal?! Maybe there's something to do there? When online it runs fine. D-link ethernet adapter DFE-520TX, D-link wireless ADSL router DSL-2640U, 'though using cable. Maybe conflict with notebook also connected through router?! 384khz ph. line. Help pls.

I take it this is what you mean:
1. You have a router (IP address 192.168.1.1)
2. Your computer has a D-Link DFE-520TX ethernet card
3. You have a D-Link DSL-2640U router/modem
4. The computer is connected to the router by an ethernet cable into the DFE-520TX
5. The internet connection is made on the router

What do you mean by "Only way to reconnect is to go through the router setup manually"? Does the computer connect at all after you boot?

What do you mean by "When online it runs fine"?

thanks for that, yes, it's been loging on after boot and when on, it functions fine 'ok' no issues re speed or general availability of pages... It seems to just 'time out' randomly, sometimes if left a few minutes or if some page unavailable?! + if I close firefox and then return... I'll try to keep a more precise record of exact times and events The router setup.... I've been speed running through the router setup by putting the default IP address 192.168.1.1 in address bar then authenticating with admin, admin and going manually through the router rebooting sequence, takes 30 seconds, boots in 30 secs...and connected?! Maybe router unstable, maybe conflict with other computer on system - seems likely.(I remember such a fault message awhile back)Other computer - Dell Inspiron 2650 notebook with win xp pro sp3, which is not functioning great at mo..

what happens when you connect the XP machine to the router via wired means. does it also lose connectivity?

the notebook 'internet' is as stable as it ever was, though it has begun having very strange and varying problems(the notebook, generally), I suspect a virus but I havn't got into investigating, 'cause focusing on the desktop with ubuntu, it's for the parents, and then I thought I could move on a bit and get the notebook organized, probably with ubuntu or other free linux..... Maybe it's an allergy!?
