Internet dc every 5 minutes

I've never had any internet problem since Monday, my internet dc every few minutes. I'm with WebAfrica, i've tried other accounts, shape, unshape...reset router....still no luck.

I have a Netgear DG834G, here is log.

I'm in Bellville area, my friend who is in Brackenfell, 15km away, who also has webafrica account has no problem.

Where should I start.....hardware.....software.....Telkom???

Please advise.

Take your router and your pc to your friend, then try connecting to the internet and check if it runs 100% for say 20minutes to maybe an hour.

If it works, then u know its line problem. Then get telkom out to come fix it. (btw is there any static or sounds on the phoneline if u make calls??)

Log onto the router and check your SNR DOWN and UP (usually rated in db, and also check at what speed its connected at, rated in kbps)
 
Sounds like a line dropping the connection every few minutes (sounds like telkom problem)

But to rule out router problem, its best to test it at your buddy's place to make sure.
(My buddy's router was faulty, and telkom came out and did line tests and also tested it with one of their own routers, he ended up paying for that callout) *cuz the problem was on his side*

Also have a look at the power adaptor or power-socket. I once had a faulty plug wich showed similar stats (kept disconnecting and stuff cuz of power spikes)
 
The line is dropping regularly.

The router stats could point to where the problem is.

If Line Attenuation is 50db-60db this is poor and you may experience connectivity issues
60db or above is bad and you will experience connectivity issues.

If your readings are 50db and above, it is very likely that you have a Telkom issue.
Telkom will be able to determine these readings from 0800375375.
If Telkom's readings agree with yours then have Telkom fix your circuit.
If Telkom's readings are better than yours, your DG834G could be faulty and you should then test it at your friends line.
 
Had the same problem last month... eventually Telkom admitted it was on their side. They were doing upgrades in my area. My line was like this for over a week.
 
a friend of mine had the same problem. logged a call with telkom and they narrowed it down to a cable fault - squirrels had eaten through the overhead cables - at least thats the story they gave :)
