Internet DOWN! (Telkom problem?)

Is anyone else having issues with their ADSL? I can't get any download bandwidth. I can upload fine, but absolutely nothing is coming through on download. No web browsing, nothing.

Interestingly, Speedtest works perfectly, up and down. But that is literally the only thing working. I'm with Telkom, 4Mb uncapped in the 011 465 xxxx area.
 
Do you have a bandwidth monitor, like NetLimiter? This will allow you to see what's using your line. When my speedtest runs it stops all my connections and gives the full line speeds.
 
I just installed Netlimiter3 to have a look. There is pretty much zero traffic, regardless of what programs I have open or what websites I try to load (none of which load). Then when I go to Speedtest suddenly it loads, no problem.

For a while I've had the feeling that Telkom (I can only comment on them since they're my ISP) will occasionally restrict access to pretty much everything, except Speedtest so that when you complain they can tell you to run a Speedtest and then tell you there's no problem (because it looks OK)... Could it be...?
 
Best would be to log a fault with them and sign up for a free Afrihost or Web Africa account and use that till it's fixed.
 
You're right about ISP's and Speedtests :mad:

If you're desperate sign-up with Mweb or Afrihost for a 1GB free account and test to see if they work, then call 10213 tomorrow.

Yup, having issues at the moment with Telkom Internet. It's been a regular occurrence for the last 4 - 6 weeks. Router is connected, I can ping local and international (names resolve); but no browsing or any other services. Strange thing is the absa homepage opens fine as well as speedtest.net (tests run perfectly). I have previously spent more than an hour on hold to log the fault; the guy always ends up putting me back on hold and while I am waiting things come right...not sure if he did anything or if they fixed some general problem.

Anyway, I know its not my line or PC as my SAOL account works perfectly. Starting to consider canning my Telkom Internet account and trying another ISP.
 
Sorry, Punt. Must be me. I've been uploading gigs and gigs since yesterday. Busy migrating my stuff to the cloud, and it's slowed down the whole internet.

LOL!!

I did try logging a fault, but the Telkom line was on a loop... You enter the number of the line the fault is on, you select the DSL faults option... it rings... and you're back at the point where you have to enter your phone number...

That cycle happened 3 times, so I gave up.

But around 23h00 last night it just came right on its own. So the moral of the story... there's still not much we can do about problems except sit back and wait until things come right. That, along with the articles recently on how slow and expensive DSL is here is really depressing...
