Hi

I have a bit of a problem and was wondering if one of you guys could help. We have 3 laptops connected to the internet in our house, 2 by WiFi, 1 via ethernet. We also recently switched from Mweb to Telkom 4mbs uncapped.

The problem is, each night we shut down our laptops, the modem stays on but shuts down the internet, meaning that the next morning we boot up, we have no internet. After booting up the laptops and waiting for about 10 mins, the internet comes back on.

Note: This did not happen that frequently with Mweb, but I don't think the problem is ISP related?

Thanks in advance :)

Possibly a faulty router, or setting in the modem (Connect on demand perhaps is enabled).

Make of current and future router?

Dont get a telkom branded one please.

Souds like one of the laptops has the conenctor installe on it. Maybe the setup cd was used when conencting to the router and entered the PPP user details, now only conencting from the laptop.

Wow, that could become a pain. Best to logonto the router and setup PPP connection on the device, using always conencted settings.

I saw my idle timeout was set to 300min. Maybe that can explain why its of when we wake up as the internet is not used during the night.

Set it to zero. Got it set to zero on a Telkom Netgear DG834GUv5 here.
