The internet could face turbulant times as it moves to IPV6. SA must start moving to the new addressing system. The current IPv4 is due to run out in 2012 so the goverment and business must get on with the swithing. During the switch the internet will become unreliable.
We have to do the switch or the internet will stop growing if we dont move to the new addressing system. IPV6 havea larger pool of addesses but it seems like we are reluctant to move to the new addressing system.
Also another problem is that the 2 addessing systems is incompatibl. As part of the internet eventualy convert to IP6 the part thats still on IP4 may not reach the site or resounce they were looking for. The instablility could last for a long time.
There is lots of work to be done. Its not a massive job but it must be done properly.
There is turbulance comming its only a matter of time before the shortfall in addresses start hitting business. AS the goverment is trying to get more people online to close the digital divide there effords could be hampered by a lack of addresses.
ISP's must eccelerate the shift to IPV6 and the must offer this to there customers. I dont know of any ISP that is offering this to there customers. Sooner or later Telkom and NEotel will not be able to sign up new broadband customers. Thats when the accountants might wake up.
