Internet in Australia - VodaFone / IBurst / DSL

Anyone out there with experience with regards to roaming / wireless internet access in Australia?

I'm leaving for Perth in the next two weeks and would like to have internet connectivity. My options thus far is
1) VodaFone roaming - Data access is really expensive (R17/mb)
2) IBurst is an option, just need username and password. Not sure if I can use my own modem though.
3) Normal DSL access at friends / internet cafes

Please let me know should you have valuable experience 'down under' wrt internet access.
 
I used unwired.com.au, you buy a certain size bundle, I had the Unleashed 512/128 12GB $89.95, the 12GB is for downloads only, uploads are free...which is nice to have. Once you've reached your cap you're softcapped.

Worked for me :)

Cellular coverage in Aus i terrible though....

Prob. is most of the population take up a small part of the land throughout OZ, and so three-quarters of OZ remained uninhabited.

= +/- R40 per gig, is that right?

It was a pain in the ass.... the minute you leave cities and towns there goes your coverage :p
 
Thanks xrapidx - your solution seem to be the most viable.
I'm only staying for 2 weeks - do I need to buy a modem and pay the activation fee?
Do you maybe know if my IBurst modem is compatible with unwired net?
 
Don't think your iBurst modem would work there, they have there own iBurst (www.iburst.com.au)... what I did was bought a modem of ebay.com.au, and then sold it on ebay when I left... paid about $49 dollars, sold it for $60 :P

I don't recall paying an activation fee though?
 
Unwired also in West Australia? Perth and surroundings doesn't appear to be on their coverage list
 
Telstra have introduced NextG, which I assume is the equivalent of HSDPA.
If you have a cellphone like the N95/E90, you could use that instead of buying a modem.

Also check out Virgin Broadband. Thay have also introduced NextG, and after you have used your data bundle, instead of being capped, you get dropped down to 128kbps.

lol... I did work...swear... just left my laptop at home everyday downloading legal stuff for my viewing pleasure. :p
