Hi.

I need some advice about getting an internet connection for my mom. She lives in Polokwane and has an old pc (2004ish) but no internet connection, dial up or otherwise. I live abroad and want to set her up for basic email, some facebook and occasional skype. She wont really be browsing otherwise so I reckon 100-200MB/month will be sufficient. What would be the best option? Any advice will help a lot!

Thanx

From CellC you can get a 3GB voucher for R400 valid for 1yr which gives you 256MB per month. Dunno about their coverage for that area though, they have HSPA+ in Polokwane.
Vodacom has 3GB for R500 but I dunno how long it's valid for (probably until it's finished or a year).

Coverage maps:

Do you have a specific budget range in mind?

If you want adsl+1GB per month you can get Telkom do Broadband 1 for R199 but you still have to add your line rental to that each month.

thanx ponder... think I'll go for the vodacom internet starter pack (R399, 100MB/month for a year) and then top up with data bundles if she needs it.

Hi inugie, pls check the Vodacom coverage map with the exact area that your mum lives in for the type of coverage she has in the area before taking out the contract, it does help with connection speeds. Vodacom has the new packages available for R149/month for 12 months, The offer also includes:

A 7.2 Mbps modem

FREE Geek support voucher which entitles you to one FREE 2-hour visit or in-store technical support to help you get started

FREE Premium Email with a 5 GB mailbox and 5 aliases

What are the benefits?
2GB of data with carry-over to the last day of the next calendar month

An extra Night Owl data bundle with 2GB FREE data to use between midnight and 5am.

FREE Premium Email

FREE Geek support voucher

I hope this info helps.... :)
