Hi all

I am moving to Potchefstroom this week and I'm in need of an internet solution. Having lived outside of SA for a long time I'm still trying to get my head around how things work here with ADSL. I had a look at Neotel, but it seems they have no coverage in Kanonierspark (the suburb which my house is in). I'm thinking at the moment that my only real option is a Telkom line + ADSL. Are there any other alternatives to Telkom and Neotel? Is it necessary to have a Tekom line (i.e. pay line rental) in order to have an ADSL line connected?

Cheers

Yes yes and yes.
Telkom ADSL is unfortunately atm the only viable solution.... unless you want to use 3G.....

Hey dave,

I'm a local resident in Potchefstroom. Definitely get ADSL if you can, all the wireless providers sucks so hard there aint air left to breath here.

I cannot get DSL because telkom wont install a line so be happy if you can get one!

Sorry to necro this thread, but any Potch ADSL users around here?

I'm with MWEB now and it's absolutely horrible. I'm just afraid of going through the hassle of changing providers only to find its a Telkom exchange problem. Any advice?

Why don't you test where the problem lies by using one of the free 1GB accounts from the likes of Afrihost, Cybersmart Etc or the Telkom guest account? Many ISPs also offer trail accounts.

I'm studying in Potchefstroom atm and been on 1mb ADSL for two years already. Phone and line rental with Telkom, MWEB as ISP.

Any wireless in Potchefstroom is k@k and expensive. The students abuse the network. The wireless network provider around here is called safricom. I have once used it before I could get ADSL and it wasn't that bad, but that's if you have good signal which is usually not the case and it's expensive.

Just go with Telkom is you can
