Education standards in South Africa are extremely low and limted. This is a fact that any expert on the subject would be able to confirm. This lack of solid education amongst the bulk of our people has been causing a negative impact on our country for years and is definitely one of the major stumbling blocks in terms of bringing in the New South Africa. Many believe that we are already living in the New SA and that blurring the lines of racial distinction was all that was needed to be done to create this but that is definitely not the case.
So white & black are now living, working and playing together now...thats great. But let us not forget that more than 90% of the education budget was spent on white education during the apartheid era.Black education standards overall has never been able to catch up even to this day. This in turn has left the bulk of the country without a solid education for years.
Lets be honest, its really pointless having a handful of really educated people in a country if we expect this country to succeed in any way. The damage has already been done and we all know that traditional forms of education in this country will never be able to even out and increase the education of our people soon enough.
So what can we do?
Since using the internet during its inception in South Africa (early 90's) i've gained more information and knowledge than even all 12 years of schooling put together. Many would agree that having easy access to the internet can greatly enhance a person's knowledge much more than any other medium available. I've taught myself psychology, philosophy , music theory, web design, graphic manipulation, sound production and many other skills purely due to the fact that i've had access to the internet. Skills shortage in South Africa they say?
Telkom...are you proudly South African enough to allow our people have easy and affordable access to the internet? Do you want to hold back the New South Africa from truly coming in?
