Internet on TV (Samsung LCD)

Hi guys,

At last i closed my eyes and went out and bought myself a new tv set..I got the Samsung LA46C650L1R LCD..I've got it up against the wall now, and im very happy with it. So now I want to start playing around with the various settings etc.

One thing i want to get going or to check out is the Internet on tv feature..so my question is do i use a crossover lan cable or a straight/patch lan cable to connect to my router? Will still search a bit on line to see where I can maybe get one of those samsung wireless usb's and what the cost will be.
 
You dont need a Crossover, you can use a normal patch lead to connect to your router. I bought a Samsung Wireless USB dongle from The Digital Experience in Fourways. A bit costly for a wireless dongle, set me back R800. But works like a charm, streaming movies without hassle from my PC. I have the LA40C630, no internet@TV. So my questions is without stealing your thread, can a software upgrade give you internet ability?

Companies limit you with there software, and its unlikely that you will ever get it working, as if you wanted it, you should have bought the more expensive one...

If on the other hand, the same model gets the function, then im sure there would be an updated firmware on the Samsung site, and maybe you should try and update the firmware :)
 
Thanks for the response. Will get me a cable made up then. R800 bucks is a bit too much for me to spend on a wireless dongle. But I'm sure it makes your setup much more tidy.Maybe later on.

JasonX, sorry I'm not sure about the upgrade.Maybe check the samsung site if there's some firmware updates as mentioned.
 
Problem is I cannot find my TV model on the local samsung website. On the box it states: LA40C630, I can find LE40C630 on http://www.samsung.com/uk. I dont want to load just any firmware and mess up my TV.
 
Samsungs factory is local. But maybe they use a standardized firmware, but i still wouldn't mess with it. There is an alternative, i think if you check on AVS forums or so, some guys have changed the model number internally, via the tv remote, which then opens up certain higher spec features. I know it can be done on the plasma's, not too sure on the LCD's.
 
Just an update on this..I finally connected my tv to the router last night..Was able to access the internet@tv feature with no effort.not a lot going on there in any case, some samsung apps, games etc. but the ones i wanted to try out was the youtube and facebook app. but for some reason i'm not able to get it going. keeps telling me it needs to be updated and i should turn off the set and back on again. but anyway, not to phased about it because i realised it wont work that great seeing that i only have a 384kbps line.

i then downloaded the pc manager software onto my laptop to share some movies/photos with the tv set. Can pick it up from the tv then but takes a substancial amount of time to load and then it only plays like minute and then have to "prepare" itself again to continue. so i'm a bit dissapointed in that..maybe it would be faster if i connect the laptop directly to the router with a cable instead of wireless? what do you guys think?
 
The video streaming over wireless is probably the culprit. Try get a LAN cable.

Yes I think it may be faster wired directly! Pity that!
 
I have the Samsung Wireless Dongle, which connects to a Netgear Wireless access point which is connected with CAT5 to my PC. This works perfectly. I previously used my PS3's wireless feature to stream video which didnt work so great. Cable is always better. If you dont want to run cable to your TV, I would recommend that you connect your laptop with CAT5 to your router and then use the Samsung wireless dongle to connect your TV to the network.

Hey man. I got my LA46C650 the other day and to be honest this internet@TV feature is a load of ***. I can now Facebook and Youtube on my PC, cellphone, PS3 and TV... 4 devices in my house?!! It is nonsense man. Overseas in the UK and USA they have blokbuster movies, FreeView HD, etc. If we had something like that it would have been awesome. I actually wanted to get the C630, but they had no stock so I had to go for the more expensive model. Honestly not worth it in my opinion.

A new firmware was released on the 27th of July. Version 1011.1. Would have been nice to know if they fixed anything and what it was. I did install it however en have not noticed anything different.

I had the choice between the C650 and C630..dont know why but I also liked the C630 more but i contacted a AV fundy friend of mine and he advised me to get the C650 rather because of better image processing capabilities. I cant however compare the two as they were at different stores. But i'm very happy with my set.

I couldn't get the Facebook and Youtube apps to work on my tv?? Did yours work before the firmware update?
 
Hi JasonX, seems you have been through the process of watching movies on your bigscreen tv. If you do not mind please, I have a similar problem: want to stream the movies either through the Yamaha rxv 756 a/v receiver(a/v card and HDMI cable) or straight to Samsung (1920 x 1080) TV. Prefer through the AVR so as to upscale video and have 5.1 sound in some instances.
What do I do? The network speed is 384 ADSL uncapped, HP PC, 2.6 gHz, 2 gb memory, but movies plays back erratically, so will the same happen with the a/v card?
Otherwise, what would be the solution?

Hi everyone i bought the LA630 40" this weekend, it has a pc slot at the back, anyone connected it? is it clear? unclear? worth the bother?

feedback appreciated.... btw im running a mac
 
The apps are pretty ordinary but I like Google Maps, Youtube and the quiz game.

Youtube is cool because the video is now large but I could just as well have connected up my PC.
