Hi I was wandering why with all antivirus and security software why is it cheaper to buy a full version than to upgrade the software normally it costs almost double the price to upgrade/renew.

If you have Windows 10 and defender you don't need anything extra. Keep it updated. So there is actually no need for you to spend money at all.
I will never trust Windows to protect me... ESET Smart Security all the way for me thanks...

Hi this is what i mean Kaspersky R504.83, to renew matrix warehouse R349 for the complete package does not make sense to me.

are the number of devices the same in your comparison?

im trying out comodo free at the moment for shits n giggles. not bad.

otherwise ive been using windows 10 built in protection with scans from various products every now and then, have not found an infection in forever since win10 upped its game. and i use virustotal to check files that look odd to me

Windows Defender has gotten remarkably better the last year or so. Its pretty decent.

Just remember that the security software you use brings with it, its own additional risk. As Avast showed us, theyre not above selling our data, and as Solarwinds showed us... almost anything can be hacked. You have to ask yourself, "Is it worth the added risk to give another company root access to my systems?" For me its not.

Lol they designed the OS so I'd rather trust them.

somewhat relevant but there is more to a security product in this case than just protecting the OS.
Take for example scanning techniques, threat intelligence feeds, zero day detection, value adds that the other vendors introduce on top of just traditional AV, trajectory analysis, 3rd party application protection, patching for 3rd party applications etc

It isnt just black and white

Hi yes the same amount of devices, cant beleve the price differences. I am happy with kaspersky. I had norton before that but norton grinds pc to halt and changes settings all over windows and is a bugger to uninstall. I have seen viruses that are friendlier that norton.

For most home users it is.

Defender is a meh product that is so friendly it will kill its own processes if you ask it nicely. Seriously. The service has zero protection.

It's AV-Comp score is meh as well:

I don't think some of you appreciate how capable Windows Defender has become. You really don't need a 3rd party anti malware app on Windows these days, even on Enterprise level. Updates, including mitigations of product vulnerabilities, apply as part of 8-hourly signature updates.

It's tough to beat.
