Hey so I want to play SC2. Now I understand that SC2 uses overseas servers only (I would play Euro server).
I have 384kbs Mweb uncapped.
1) will 384kbs give me a low enough latency to play? how many seconds delay does one get? I have had many different answers coming from this question so I would love to hear from someone with experience playing with 384kbs.
2) My understanding of shaped/unshaped is non-existant. No need to explain things, just wondering if my latency would be improved from upgrading to faster download speeds (say 512kbs or higher) or going for same speeds but unshaped. (What improves latency more for overseas play, shapelessness or faster speeds?)

Thanks

384kbs is fine, upgrading line speeds wont really improve ping times but getting unshaped bw will definitely improve your latency.

Even with a shaped account you should be fine. I am playing on Iburst and I do have some lag every now and again, but it isn't that big of an issue....

You won't be able to go below 0.4 delay even if you lived next door the server anyways (it has a build in delay of 125). You'll be fine with the 384.

I would suggest (if you got money to spare) get an axxess 2 gig prepaid unshaped and use it for gaming (the prepaid account lasts 1 year so it remains for 1 year). And switch between your axxess and mweb as your needs change. the unshaped line will definitely make for a better gaming experience.

You will most likely play at peak hours and thats when the mweb line will experience the most lag.

That sounds like a good idea. Going to try it

Well, butter my biscuit! Just get 4megs with a 30 gig cap! That's if you wanna be a goliath online.
Some sort of DSL cable would mosdef be best if there isn't enough minerals.
Nota Bene: Satelite internet has a latency of around 0.5 seconds, which is entirely unacceptable if you wanna be PRO.

yes I want this. No $ for 4 meg.. A gather that 384 unshaped will be good for ping though. Wont be able to with 0.5 sec delay....
