Hi,

Is there a way I can track the usage of my adsl internet or even a fixed cellular router for that matter?
Which devices are using how much of the data?
What time of day the downloading is happening?
Which sites is usage the highest?
It will have to be at the modem level cos a few devices use the same modem.
I havent come across anything - surely there is an opportunity here for some of you smart okes.

There are a number of ways to achieve this. Here's an (oldish) thread addressing the same question - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/241390-Monitor-Bandwidth-Usage

Personally, I use a Mikrotik router, as it is all I really need. It's not very detailed (no reports, graphs, etc) about tracking each user's specific usage, though - in that case you would have to combine it with a squid proxy (which is becoming increasingly more useless these days with all of the HTTPS adoption), or something like that. Also looking around for a good solution for this, to be honest

Another thing to look at is the Meraki routers. They do exactly what you are looking to do, but as far as I know there is no real distribution for these yet in SA so you may need to import a device if you go this route
