Internet via DSVT?

My wifes uncle lives in the sticks and has pretty much zero 3G signal and no telephone lines for ADSL etc.

He says he saw a add for a web box whereby you can get internet connection via your DSTV dish. Now all I have managed to dig up is the Vodacom Web Box which uses your TV but via 3G which isn't going to help him.

Anyone know if you can get a connection via your DSTV dish?

You get satellite internet providers but balls those guys are expensive and often you need a phone line for the uplink

Ah ok. I have a feeling he is willing to pay anything he is so desperate

But if he needs a phone line that might be an issue. He did mention that a vodacom tower was planned to be installed sometime in and around his area, he may just need to wait it out.

No. DStv dishes are receive only. His only satellite option would be a VSAT service or an Inmarsat terminal, but it is rather expensive.

If there is a tower not too far away you can look into a Mikrotik 411 RB wit a 3G modem card and a external antenna:

It will take some work though as its not just plug and play.

@Beachless, I think the tower is really far and thus he gets little or no signal. I have been there a few times and get No Service.
