Hello,

Have TelCon adsl, and MWEB as an ISP. I am located in the Midrand area.

Since yesterday (Fri) I have had the problem that my connection works fine for a small period of time 10-15 mins, then just stops. Then after a minute or so starts again. Not just browsing, but IM and email affected.

Not sure whats going on. Called TelCon and MWEB. MWEB said call TelCon as they have no information and the service is running fine. TelCon said everything is fine.

Haven't installed anything new on my machine recently and the configuration remains the same. Have scanned for spyware (Spybot, Defender, Ad-aware) as well as viruses (Norton 2006 updated definitions).

Any ideas?

Thanks

To me coming from the UK the service offered by Telkom at it's price and speed is a con, hence TelCon.

I'm having this same problem since thursday evening, yesterday it ran fine during the day but this morning its the same problems.

It connects runs fine then stops working and the only way too fix it is too reset my modem.

I actually first noticed the problem on Thursday night too. On Friday the ADSL was down in the morning but back up by lunch time, however, then the intermittent connectivity started.

I have logged a fault with TelCon, so will wait and see what comes of that.

I have never paid attention to my modem. Since this problem started I have done some reading. I have a Billion 5102S. Now I believe the ADSL light should always be on, and this means the modem is synced with the exchange. Mine is occasionally blinking every 10 - 60 secs, and when I download something. When downloading something the LAN light flashes fast [expected] and the ADSL one blinks once a second.

Is this normal?

Thanks

Sunday morning and this problem is still here, very frustrating.

I found this thread:

http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/archive/index.php/t-11333.html

In this thread many people seem to point to modem hardware problems. I am not sure about that. Everything was working fine until about Thursday night and has een for one year. On this forum a number of people have stated that TelCon had problems around that time.

Could something have changed on the network? TelCon haven't got back to me yet after logging the call so guess I will have to wait until they do.

Update:

On Sunday lunchtime TelCon called to say that they had other complaints in my area of this nature (Midrand) and moved my line from one DSLAM to another. Now all working fine.
