OK so here it is, I have been angling for this position for quite some time now.

It is an internal postion at my present employer.

In the past, I have not been so fortunate to even crack an interview - so finally it happens and my interview is tomorrow.

I am both delighted and petrified.

Delighted that now it finally presents me with the advancement opportunity that I have been craving.

Petrified because I don't want to screw this one up.

So I am requesting input - hints and tips.

Also to clarify, I have been at my present employer for 8 years now going on 9.

So my skills relating to interviews and making a success out of them is extremely rusty.

Oh yes it is for a Business A position.

Prepare answers for "where do you see yourself in 5 years?", "what vision do you have for the department?", "what are your weaknesses?" etc. Try to respond by making your "weaknesses" the strengths they're looking for...eg detail oriented, controlling etc

Its good that you could stay with them for 8 years. Not many of us can say that we've been with the same company for that long.

@ Turk I know, the year I joined my present employers - they were my fourth company for that year.

I have been chasing advancement for the last 8 years (I refused to consider a lateral move - it is just not worth it in the long run) - so moving on from this new position will be a cinch.

But right now I am really looking forward to all the new growth opportunities that this will provide.

Well I hope it works out for you. You are the exception, rather than the rule. Personally, I've never experienced advancement. All I've ever experienced is empty promises and lies to the extent that I now rarely stay longer than 4 years with a company. Usually by year three they've either lied to me too much (empty promises of increase, advancement, etc..) or they're trying to get rid of me because they feel threatened.

I have had that , luckily the company has been large enough for me to move to a different business area within - cause I got all tired with the empty promises.
