True - but from the article:

At the moment, Brian Manderville, the developer of Descent|OS is working very hard on the next major release of the distribution, Descent|OS 3.0, which will be based off of the upcoming Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) operating system.

Descent|OS 3.0 will be distributed as Xfce and MATE spins, alongside the existing GNOME version. Mozilla Firefox and a 64-bit edition will also be present.

Hmm - Brian Manderville, that name sounds familiar.
 
personally I think mint or mint cinnamon would be better- development of Gnome 2 has all but stalled. At least with cinnamon you get gnome 3 under the hood, but it still looks and feels like gnome 2 if that's what you're into.
 
It is indeed a pure Gnome 2 release.

Very fast, almost instant boot time. Less than 3 seconds in the VM from start to desktop.

Slingshot gives you a more Gnome 3 feel, but much more minimalistic.

Docky, not a fan of extra docks, so will probably remove it.

Default menu very plain and functional, nothing fancy.

Now it needs to marinade a bit over time to see if it will become popular. Cinnamon has quelled the flames of hatred directed at Gnome 3 and people have started to move on to other DE's and WM's, so it will be interesting to see what happens with this, if there is still a true need out there.

In the end it is however still just Ubuntu with a skin.

Personally, I believe if you have a system with more than 3gbyte memory, its quite worth it having a 64bit OS. There is no reason not to. Looking at the system I have nowadays...8gbyte memory on home pc, 6gbyte memory on my work pc...

Oh well, to each their own I believe.
 
Yea, 4Gb is a problem in Windows but in Linux you can recompile your 32bit kernel to support 64Gb.

I just finished updating the OS and it seems really nice, well rounded. Like it.

Thanks for your time and comments. It'll be interesting to see how the 12.04 spin works out given that the Ubuntu underpinning will be a LTS version - could keep die-hard Gnome2 users going for a while yet :)
