I got the Inventel wirelss magic or Telkom cordless gateway 3 in 1 (ADSL Modem, WIFI router and Dect cordless telephone) and bought two Telkom wireless USB dongles. I did a self install and managed to get my desktop "Win2K" connected via ethernet and eventually managed to get on the internet.
Next I wanted to connect two Laptops via the two Telkom wireless USB dongles. One Laptop runs XP and the other Win2K. And i wanted to use the wireless telephone.
After several attempts, support calls and the likes im totally stuck with the wireless component.
1)The telephone worked briefly but stoped since.
2) I disabled Firewalls, Virus protection and allmost everything else, installed over and over but no connection. (got the XP machine to see the wireless network but cant connect to internet ... error trying to obtain IP)
The two Telkom wireless USB dongles just cant get a IP by the looks of it ... tried manual ip's no ip's and all the rest... but cant connect.
Then i uninstalled the wireless bits form the laptops, took spare ethernet port into an old hub i had and connected both via nic's and ethernet. Got that working ... but on cable and I want (and paid for) wireless.
Called Telkom ADSL they refered me to Invertel whom refered me to Marconi (for two Telkom wireless USB dongles) but somehow the level of expertise on the help desks is designed to frustrate not assist ...
Has anyone experienced similar problems, has anyone have any idea of what next one could try?
Telkom advised me to remove everything and take it back for a swap out, but i would have to go through all the pain associated with all of that.
Im beginning to think that the Inventel "wireless" MAGIC is just that ... the magic is in getting it to work!
Can do with any advice, help or a general idea in the right direction ...
