That is insanely high. What office work are you doing? My desktop uses about 40-60W doing regular word processing/surfing/etc.

Yea, I guess I shouldn't call it normal work but I should call it work that is normal for me.
 
If the system is just doing normal office work it sits at about 240Watts but If I push a benchmark on it 325 to 334Watts on the high end but then all the fans are screaming at me.
What I hear you say is that if you were using a balanced profile, you would use an absolute maximum of around 240 Watts. That's huge unless you are using really ancient and mismatched kit, or a really beast of a machine with a hungry graphics card or two. Then again, if the latter were true, you would not be bitching about budget because yo would be a well-paid individual. A sane person with a limited budget would save the benchmarking / stress testing for when Eskom can deliver, unless that is what you do regularly (for a living, not kicks).

So max 240 Watts, and add 7-15 for some lights, say 30W for charging a mobile, puts it at 285 W tops. Well within 300W for your calculations.

So for:
4 hours, you would need battery power of 300W * 4 = 1.2kWh plus losses @ say 20% (generous) - 1.44kWh
6 hours you will need 2.16 kWh
8 hours you will need 2.88 kWh
10 hours you will need 3.6kWh
12 hours you will need 4.32 kWh
14 hours you will need 5.05 kWh

Do you see the pattern here?

Do you now realise that you can get away with a 1K inverter, but battery storage capacity is important, dependent on how many hours you want to be doing work?

But you are right, I guess I will need a Dell OPtiPlex.

It uses a 180Watt power supply.

The GIZZU HERO CORE SOLAR PANEL BUNDLE should be able to power the Dell for a little bit. Will have to see.
How is it that people can find R100k+ for a car but R40k is a bridge too far for backup power…sure, it’s a grudge purchase, but pay it off over two years at R3k per month maybe?

Solar system for Office. I have a good idea of what is needed. What I wanted to know can I run a computer on pure DC only system. PC PSU DC 12V Input 300W Output Computer Power Supply Module Board with 24Pin Connect/AUX/SATA Cable, Suitable for MiniITX and 1U Case

Now clearly I was hoping for a more powerful solution then the one I found on Amazon. I do not doubt your information but have you actually done this? What was the result? What system did you end up powering?

I also asked the following here Need to upgrade my pc. In this section I explored a very small upgrade kit from Intel. It is an i3 system and it will match up with my GPU. Not to say that this Intel upgrade will work with the DC solution I found on Amazon. In fact I doubt it can power anything I want to use.

The inverter system can do more, but It doesn't hurt to look at other technologies from time to time and ask about it.

Yep, with an integrated AC solution, not DC.
What was the result?
Excellent. The last time I bought CoJ electricity was 3.5 years ago.

My whole home. Every single appliance.

DC @12V brings its own challenges, as I alluded to earlier. Thicker cables and voltage drop being but two, there are many more. There's a reason why 220V AC is so pervasive.
The inverter system can do more, but It doesn't hurt to look at other technologies from time to time and ask about it.

The problem with your dc-dc 12v adapters you found, they can't power any GPU that requires external power, i.e PCI connector from power supply..

Now say you have a GPU that doesn't require external power, you still need a battery, still need charger still need cables etc etc etc.. can't just use a car battery, so you are spending at least 2k if not more on a deep cycle lead acid battery which is a terrible investment in any case.. add charger cables and you are easily hitting 5000+ bucks which puts you into somewhat decent power station range..

Run a laptop without the battery rather. Single voltage DC input. Without the battery because the charger will consume more power keeping the battery going. Just the laptop straight off a buck converter that provides the necessary V at A.
