Need to upgrade my pc

Think I might just get a laptop I am not in the mood to battle Eskom, Intel Drivers and sit with another under preforming overpriced piece of garbage.

I think a desktop will be better. Laptops is way more expensive for what you get compared to desktop. and even the most basic entry level gaming laptop will not last 2hr of game time or even medium cpu usage will not get you 2hr I think and I might be wrong.
 
does your system support "resizeable bar" ?

from what i understand the arc a series depends on it for optimal performance.

its enable in bios, if its not there try update the bios and see if the feature is available.

you can use gpu-z to see if it is enabled on your system. it is displayed on the bottom right of the main tab.

Yes it does, I got that enabled with my last bios update "still didn't do the latest update" In all honesty I really hate Bios updates. But yea it does support it. for the most part I got the latest Intel driver to work today actually.

I can't just normally install it, so I have to do some extra steps but I am glad to see it is working.

I am not sure what the deal is anymore, Can it be my SSD? My computer with win10 use to boot in seconds. Now it takes up to 10min just to get to the log in screen then a few more minutes to load the background and everything else.

I understand my PC is not new but how on earth can a 2Core i3 from 2019 be faster? Am I missing something in Win11? I disabled every service, did every possible thing to keep it trim. I installed an antivirus and let it run overnight. The system is clean. The install is fresh. What the hell is going on?

I think I will be scrapping this system at the end of the month I am done with AMD. Good price good performance. But something between AMD and Microsoft isn't right and I can't deal with the constant slowness anymore. This system even with the ARC was never this slow so I don't blame the GPU. Something else is happening and I don't know what that is.
 
It's seems like your PC is really making your life miserable. Also don't think someone would want to buy a PC with an online presence of problems.

I can highly recommend giving it to me. :)

Take some antidepressants and just do the latest BIOS update. It usually fix 90% of the problems. Just make sure your PC stays powered when doing the BIOS update.

Noted.

The BIOS update should be done over the weekend, I am waiting for the M.2 to get here. I suspect my SSD might be the source of my instabilities. Just testing the UPS. We had no power most of this week. Right now we have other problems. Some homes have 180V AC or lower and others have over 300V AC. They are currently working on this so they will be turning our power on and off all day.

Yeah, I don't know how anyone with a PC operate without an inverter (not a UPS!).

I have an inverter system. I need to service it as well. Once it is reliable again I will be using it again. For now the UPS was the cheapest to repair.

The power isn't going to cause boot problems.
Have you run a SMART test on your SSD?
It will give you an idea of the health of your SSD, in terms of what the SSD thinks the wear level is

Had to send the M.2 back because it didn't want to work, turns out it was a bad batch and the PC store said I will get a new one in a few weeks when they get stock.

Other Update, I grabbed a second hand GPU on Carbonite will see how that goes.
 
I also got a bad SSd once. was dead on arrival. I bought it on evetech and thought I would just have to write it off as school fees.
but a week after I gave it back to them I took delivery of a replacement. same brand same size but bran new box, that one worked fine.

just reading all the issues you are discussing here it sounds to me like 100% of your issues is the ARC GPU. its likely messing with everything else.

Yes I decided not to do the latest Bios update, my gut is telling me not to do it so I will not do it. But the ARC will be replaced early next week. The replacement should be here by then. I am hoping it will solve most of my problems.

Otherwise I will probably go Intel and get an upgrade kit. The ARC might be scrap but Intel still builds good CPUs

I had Win 11 issues as well. Win 11 requires TPM and secure boot, and those don't play well with mechanical HDDs. Going back to Win 10 did not solve my slow system until I disabled TPM and friends.
Getting rid of all my mechanical HDDs fixed it for me.

As for AMD + Intel... back in the day my friend had a K6-2 and an i740. That system warned me away from intel graphics cards. I agree with getting a 5000 series Ryzen and a more mature graphics card model.

Thing is a CPU upgrade for my PC will cost just as much as an upgrade kit if I go new and then there is the PCIe 3 vs 4 thing I need to think about. I think I will upgrade this system soon. But I might go with AMD again.

I doubt it, but if it does, at least you'll have a 5600 instead of a 14100.
And since you're planning to upgrade anyway, might as well flash that BIOS since you won't lose much if it fails.
 
I see the Ryzen 1600 is not officially supported by Windows 11. Did you use a workaround for it to work?
