I made a few mistakes in my life.

The biggest two mistakes was buying an Intel Arc A750 and my second mistake was buying AMD a couple of years ago. I am having so much **** with this system that I can't work with it anymore.

I am thinking an upgrade is needed. Since the A750 is only a year old now I am forced to keep it as Nvidia lost it's mind a couple of years ago.

I am looking into maybe getting this upgrade kit. Intel 14th Gen Core i3-14100F PRO B660M-E D4 16GB 3200MHz Upgrade Kit - MSI PRO B660M-E D4 Intel Motherboard + Intel 14th Gen Core i3-14100FUp to 4.70GHz CPU + KLEVV 16GB (16GB x 1) 3200MHz DDR4 Desktop Memory (OEM) / Discrete GPU Required - No Integrated Graphics

I am not a heavy gamer. My work load is mainly Visual Studio, Microsoft Excel, DaVinci Resolve and OBS.

Games include WOW, GW2, D3, Risk of Rain, Overwatch and Warframe.

I do think it is a good idea to go for 32Gb of ram rather then 16Gb of ram.

My current system.

The i5 Might look like a better deal but I don't feel like spending a ton of money on cores I will probably never use. My main reason to upgrade is driver compatibility problems with the GPU. When I try to do a upgrade Intel just say CPU not supported and refuse to do updates also my computer just hang and this is after a new Win11 install and everything updated "accept the GPU driver"

The last driver I got to work with my system is this one.

Will the upgrade be worth it?

Nope.

The correct upgrade is to a newer Ryzen CPU. Depending on your budget, something like a 5600X or 5700X3D would make a massive difference to your overall performance. Modern Ryzen CPUs are fantastic - fast, stable and low power. Also, your current motherboard most likely supports the new CPUs, so you literally replace the CPU, possibly the CPU cooler depending on what you have now, and RAM if you want to.

What motherboard do you have?

As for the GPU - they are releasing new drivers for those cards fairly frequently. It's odd that it won't allow you to upgrade, possibly there's a tool or help online as to the specific errors you're getting when you try - you can post here and we can see if we can help.

In terms of your "upgrade" - you'd be spending all that money on a now defunct system. Anyone buying a PC for the foreseeable future should be buying into a DDR5 system. Intel LGA1700 won't get any further updates, so you'll be buying into a dead platform as the next Intel CPUs won't fit that motherboard. It's also the slowest of the slow (still decent), however 14th gen and 13th gen are the same parts, except for 1 model (not the 14100F). 13100F would be the same performance at a lower budget and an equally bad idea.

This is what I would do. Then sell your existing RAM (you want matching modules, so better to get 2 new ones).

As I understand it my PCI-E is not good enough to run with the ARC I will include details below.

What will this update fix? I don't like BIOS updates they can kill the PC. I did one when I got my GPU but it stressed me out.

Backup the old BIOS, then do an update as usual. On newer boards it's much safer.

What exactly is the problem you are getting?

edit: Nvm I see.

1. Bios update
2. You are not forced to keep the Arc, you can sell it, then buy a 1060 upwards Nvidia card or 3050/3060 and be done with it.
3. Get better Ryzen CPU, board looks fine.

3050, depends on budget.

I would not buy an Arc, maybe next gen when released. For now I would like to play with one though just out of curiosities sake.
Think the combo of Amd and Intel makes it worse. IF you going to play with the Arc it would be better to play with it on intel.

Selling/trading it is always an option, but I cannot even give an estimate since the few people who are selling it haven't sold theirs yet. If you bought an Arc you are basically a Guinea pig.

I think most of the tests and benchmarks Ive seen were done on ryzen systems.

There's no test evidence that I'm aware of that ARC runs worse on AMD than on Intel.

Good idea, and then test it with a few simulated power failures just to be sure.
Knowing Eskom and their impeccable timing and my bad luck I taking no chances. I hate bios updates.

There is some evidence, firstly your PCI-E needs to be on the latest generation and that is mainly why I have such poor performance. But let's say I get a new AMD system the ARC will still not preform like it would on a pure Intel system.

How to Tell If an Intel® Deep Link Feature Is Enabled on My System?
Information on Intel® Deep Link Technologies

It is a the main reason why I am looking to go with Intel 14th Gen system. But honestly at this point I am considering just getting a laptop.

Have you checked any reviews to see if these Intel exclusive features offer any actual benefits?

So either i cant see it, but has anyone suggested dumping the ARC gpu to get rid of your biggest issue?
...sell it on Carbonite and get a 3060 for better performance in davinci resolve.. Trying to make a complete system work around that Arc will either cost you more in time/money/frustration and possibly missed deadlines etc.

With selling it (arc) and buying either new or used (3060), you probably wont spend more than 2k on a stable pc.
Save up then while using this working pc and do a proper platform upgrade, can then carry on using the 3060 and replace it if needed, but you will then have your platform ready for all the new toys by.

My computer is hanging on startup, it is just a bad experience to work on it. It is so slow it takes 10min to fire up a browser. Doing anything on it is painfully slow. I doubt the GPU is responsible for all of this.

I am not going to sell the Intel ARC because it actually does a good job. When it works it works well. But something else on this system is close to be dead. I suspect it is Win11, it was never a good experience on an AMD. Or it might be the ram or CPU. I am not sure it can even be the Board. I don't know.

All I know is, it is a bad experience.
