Upgrade kit questions

Sigh wootware slow on shipping, ordered on the weekend to get the stuff this week still, so I can setup it up over the weekend, so it doesn't mess up my work week, considering it is a work PC. Annoying thing about online shops. Received my SSD from amazon on Tuesday already.

Best laid plans and all that. Hopefully it ships tomorrow, which means Monday/Tuesday FML.
Depends on the courier used

Should be with courier guy that is what they said.Takes about a Day and half to get to bloemfontein. The annoyance is I ordered items either in stock with wootware or has the least amount of lead time according to them, with the exception of the CPU which was in stock with wootware, everything else had a two day lead time max, it is day 4.

Really hoping they ship today or at least update me if they have stock issues, will fire off an email on Friday morning if I still haven't heard anything, after that raise some hell. :P. I will rather get them to ship what they have, get a refund and get whatever is missing else where that has physical stock. Delays because of shortages is 2-3 weeks so far.....

If you chose the Eco one, it can take 3 to 5 days :( that's what happened for me

Nope wanted it specifically for the weekend., so paid for it

This what they send Monday morning. Which is why I am annoyed, pay for faster shipping, since then dead silence.
We've received your payment & stock has been ordered from our suppliers.

We'll dispatch your order from our offices by Wednesday, 13 August.

Your order should be delivered on Friday, 15 August or Monday, 18 August at the latest.

We'll forward you tracking information once your order is dispatched.

Nope next week only. Contacted them now. Apparently the supplier didn't include the motherboard with the shipment order to their offices and that is only arriving tomorrow. Will try and ship it out tomorrow afternoon, So will only get my order Wednesday next weekish.

They did offer me another motherboard, they can ship out today, but have to pay in R349.00, would make little difference too late now as it will still only arrive next week.

It is okay, annoying and slightly pissed off that they didn't figure out something was a miss sooner, but at least it isn't an out of stock issue. At least it gives me some time this weekend to arrange, and set up the mechanical drive that goes into the system.

The only that could possibly make this worse is DOA stock...........FML

Unusual for Wootware, normally they keep things on track.

Yeah **** does happen from time to time. It isn't directly their fault, should have picked up on the error sooner. But it would have been nice to get a quick email.

Actually did a quick check if I could get a board from somewhere like amazon or takealot. But the DDR5 MSI board was on special, and they ain't cheap.

Did check the website now I see they have an open box of the same motherboard I ordered, R100 off, can at least get the stuff on Monday still.

Well when you come right, let us know :-) especially if it meets expectations

When I last used them for a complete build 2 something years ago I went almost 3 weeks with no communication at all. Upon enquire I was told that the MB was out of stock and I had to cash-up for another one. The build was filtered on hand and in warehouse at the time of purchase.

I know places like Evetech get a lot of **** here but there is no such thing as a perfect retailer. It's impossible to get things right every time all the time.

Also why I'm pro-digital. The only time I ever received a physical game on its actual release day was Doom 3. Everything else was delayed.

When I was still importing figurines from Japan many years ago I used to laugh all the time. 1 day overnight flight to Dbn. depot and then a week to get from depot to Shelly Beach which is 40 ****ing minutes away.

Sorted, arranged the open box, got R100 discount and will ship out today. Apparently the board never left their offices, customer ordered a build and then cancelled the order. So will get my order Monday :) Exact same board. No water off my back and I know the board works as well.

Been there, done that got the t-shirt. I am use to the lack of communication, so I give some leeway and do a query the next day if something was supposed to happen, does zero harm and saves you the hassle of waiting several days only to find out there was a fck up.

Just want this system up and running as soon as possible so I can continue my work...and that still takes 2-3 days, plus never used windows 11 so I will need to figure out what works and does work softwarewise find replacements or fix stuff.

Sigh still on the fence whether I should do a clean windows install or make a clone of the current drive and upgrade to windows 11 once the clone is installed. It is like half a day and more to setup windows with all the crap you need

Clean would be best if you plan to use it for ages again.. upgrading an install that’s been running for a while.. you just might end up with unforeseen issues down the line which will be a nightmare to troubleshoot. Can even cause slowdowns if you endlessly just update/in-place upgrade.

And the added bonus if something goes wrong, just plop the old drive in and off you go. (after windows scan/installs the new hardware ofc)

I always do a clean install on MB change. If only RAM/CPU/GPU upgrade on same socket/series then it's not needed just update chipset drivers, shutdown, swap and turn back on.

Its also a good idea to DDU, shutdown, swap, turn on and driver update between AMD/Nvidia at minimum. A clean install is actually recommended.

It is a relative clean install from last month. the previous install actually crashed last month due to a power failure, and that was a windows 7 install from 201* something that was upgraded to 10, cloned and installed on a new SSD without issues and ran smooth without a single days issue 8-9 years.

It is a hassle to do a clean install, bar the drivers.

I have to do the following
Photoshop creative cloud.
Blender and plugins
Gimp and plugins
Firefox, transfer data backup, all the plugins
Chrome
Codecs
OBS
Audacity
Whatsapp
Antivirus
15+ work related apps, plus registering them all again
Move over 60gigs current work related project files.
Documents folder
Setup the menu bars
Quick access folders
Steam again

It is easier to create a clone of the current disk, expand the disk space to fit the new drive, and upgrading to windows 11 than doing a clean install. Having a cloned disk copy is also a saving grace, can always revert back to that. Plus I have the current SSD and system as back up, which was always the plan

Yeah but that nagging feeling that you could have done a clean setup on new hardware will never go away :P

For you maybe.........lol. Still, will ponder about it, have the ISO downloaded and everything, just need to install rufus and tweak the installation a bit, and load it onto the USB.

Just got an email, order packaged and got my tracking number. Will do the backups and stuff I need for the new system the weekend and then play a game or two to give it a proper send off. In the mood for some Tomb raiding this weekend.

Since I have the entire series, I don't know which one I will be playing. You can do Tomb raider underworld in a day, personally it is still my favourite game of the series, anniversary a close second............. I have only done one play through of shadow, and honestly while very pretty, it is more a tech demo, and the game felt a little flat, might give that a second shot.

Shadow of tomb raider is so dumb. the intro temple that exits right into the enemy camp when you get that knife thing .. yet they been looking for it for so long.. i uninstalled/refunded the game right there back then.

Never mind the boring story plot, and glaring plot holes and the story in general not making a lick of sense. I waited a couple of years to get the game, paid like R80.00 not too long ago.
