Upgrade kit questions

Already checked him out he has some decent kits but none of them with 32gig ram, which is a must. Currently no intel kits either so not currently on my consideration list.

Sigh and things are only getting harder found a AMD Ryzen 7 8700F for 3.5k, will need to get board and ram else where, So FML...............
Why do you need a kit specifically? A kit is for one purpose, and one purpose only - it's to save the guy who would otherwise buy a Celeron G6900 with an A520 board and DDR5 RAM, because they're the cheapest in each category. It's about guaranteed compatibility.

If something catches your eye other than the RAM, just let me know and I can put something together for you :)

Because I found while shopping around, in some instances there is a slight saving to be had with kits, some not all...just less hassle too....with shortages and stuff CPU selections aren't great at the moment.

So this is what I ended up getting

MSI PRO B760M-E DDR5 Intel B760 Raptor Lake LGA 1700 Micro-ATX Desktop Motherboard
Intel Core i5-14400F 10-Core 4.70GHz Raptor Lake-S Socket LGA1700 Desktop CPU
XPG LANCER BLADE 16GB (2x16GB) DDR5-5600 CL46 1.25V

R7475 including shipping, pretty much the best all round deal I could find and shops that actually had stock. Still going to get a m.2 drive but takealot was slightly cheaper, went with a board that costs R200 odd more but support 14th gen out of the box.

*Edit

Got a R200 off amazon promotion, paid R459 for a 512gig drive even cheaper than takealot :) Will wait and get a 2tb drive at a later point, m.2 gen 4 drives a bit pricey. Normal SSD will work just fine for now.

Just one more item to get then this upgrade is complete a new windows 11 license

Need one more thing.
Recommendation for an air cooler for the CPU nothing crazy

I can use my old CM Hyper 212 evo. Which to be honest is the best cooler I have ever gotten hands down
Will need to get some thing like this.

Or just get some thing like this, and retire the old work horse beastReally don't want to run into throttling issues this summer, even thought it is on the cheap side it is still better than the stock laminar rm1 cooler.

ended up getting the cooler from wootware. So every thing is sorted now. Think it is going to be an awesome build. Got super lucky got the last 14400 in stock, next stock is only due in next week sometime.

I got the ID Cool A620 maybe a bit big, larger than my motherboard and covers the RAM. May as well just have gotten normal RAM788883797.jpg

I have a deep ish case. So shouldn't be a problem Have a thermaltake versa n27, should have enough clearance on the sides and on top. Ram heat spreaders aren't that high so should be fine there as well

Yeah I've got a phantek P400 so it's not a small case by any means, just double check cooler sizes :)
I should be able to place the cooler sideways and have it blow bottom up, instead of front to back. Could do that with the Hyper 212, not sure with this one. Either way will find out soon enough. As with this system, Would have liked to get a normal 14400 not the f version, but have a GPU so no big issues. Searched around for a 14600 that isn't asking an arm and leg or on special.

But it seems the chip shortages is getting pretty rough at the moment, pretty lucky I got a in stock 14400, Would have gone with my second choice which was a ryzen 7 8700f, but that was a fck up, as I needed to get the cpu from loot, and the rest elsewhere, rather not have to deal with several deliveries and deal with potential out of stock.

Pretty happy I managed to get everything from wootware, likely only getting the goodies next week, unless they can manage to get all the stock by tomorrow,(shows lead times as 1-2 days) it is with courier guy and the ssd with amazon, earliest Thursday on that. Have windows 11 install and key ready, got it from loot box.

Really hoping to get it all by Friday. Only thing after that which is next month's problem is getting a new PSU for the old system.

But I am going to need more help setting up the bios and stuff get the best profile settings, will do some reading up, ram settings and such, didn't exactly get the best ram around so need to get the most out of it with settings. Reading up on creating an offline profile for windows 11. Been 12 odd years since my last upgrade 4770k served me well, pretty much be double/triple the performance increase and the GPU should get a healthy bump going from PCie 3 to 4 as well.

Next year I can start thinking about getting a new GP

maybe DM him and make a deal happen

Coolers covering ram is such a design ****up in my mind.
Yeah Coolers are getting rather large :-) I mean this one makes my old one look like a tiny little itty bitty thing.

It says NZORF lol.
Aaah you mean that way :-). Not from when I was putting it on the motherboard, it was 100% correct and Terminator was upside down. So depends on how you look at it.

You need to save and get that Nvme ... makes a world of a difference over standard SSD with speeds of ±7000 MBps
99% non-corporate users wont feel that 7000mb/s+ anyway.. just get any 4th gen thats 3500mb/s or over, plenty fas and usually wont need a cooling brick on it either.. Having your OS or game load 0.01-1 second faster on a 7000mb/s gen4 or 12k+ gen5 just isnt worth the pricetag :P

Not too bothered with it, made sure to get an SSD with cache, a bit more pricey, KINGSTON A400 is a beast at the price point. You do get to a point of diminishing returns, and the current gen 4 price point, it really doesn't matter, real benefit with Nvme drive is with games that make use of direct storage and if you throw enough ram at the problem it doesn't hurt either. Quite often deal with 4gig+ high hires 4k textures during rendering and creation process.

SSD will do just fine, I would rather add a 256gig Nvme and use it as a cache drive, rather than a windows install, with most apps I can setup that up, especially photoshop, that really takes advantage of a fast cache drive, I don't need windows to boot at light speed. Even now on older gen 3 sata windows boots in about 13 seconds, I am not complaining.

Personally, next storage adventure is 2 x 4tb mechanical drives, one for offline backups and one for standard storage, their cheap enough now on special you can have them for as little as 2k.

Considering I paid R459 (R200 discount) with free shipping for the 480 gig version where the average price is between 900 and 1.2k, else where (Amazon sells it for 659 pretty much cheapest anywhere)I really didn't do bad at all

Sigh wootware slow on shipping, ordered on the weekend to get the stuff this week still, so I can setup it up over the weekend, so it doesn't mess up my work week, considering it is a work PC. Annoying thing about online shops. Received my SSD from amazon on Tuesday already.

Best laid plans and all that. Hopefully it ships tomorrow, which means Monday/Tuesday FML.
