Investec Advise Needed

Those returns are ok if you're looking for a place to pust some cash for the short term.

If you're looking at a medium or long term investment, keep looking.

Yeah, it is a short term cash investment. Until I decide what to do with the moola.

Then nothing wrong. They do have certain requirements in order to bank with them.

You need to earn a certain amount or be worth a certain amount.

What would be good for long term investment then?

I put money into a Bidvest 121 Day call account - get 6.5% - I'm using this for longer term saving for a deposit on a house. Money is safe and return is ok.
I keep 4 Capitec accounts with balance of 9999 in each - get 6% - just transfer interest paid monthly to another account, great interest rate for liquid cash.

Last time I compared capitec offered a better rate below an 800k lump sum.

Keeping money in Cash is NOT an investment. Compare 6% PA to 60%+ PA on investments is a no brainer. But I must add that for very short term of 1 to 3 months you can't go wrong. The markets are just too choppy to get into shares or unit trusts at this stage.

60% PA?! Can you say Pyramid scheme.

Can you open subsequent Capitec accounts online, once you have one account with them?

Not that I'm aware of but it's relatively painless after your first account has been opened. They require the usual stuff (id book, proof of residence etc) to open the account and after that you can just quickly pop into a branch with your id book and open another (up to 4 accounts).

What Pyramid Scheme? The JSE is not a Pyramid Scheme. I don't believe that you have not heard of Stock Exchanges like the JSE.
60% is nominal. If you pick the right stocks, 140% is what you get. Cash investments at 6% gets eaten up by inflation and you get NO return. Even if you use a dartboard to pick your Top 40 you will do MUCH better than a measly 6%.

Currently inflations close to or is at 6% so you aren't getting much if any growth in cash accounts.

Dude what are you smoking, 60%pa! Sounds like luck, +60% this year, down 90% next year yo yoing along.

Barely covers inflation, but yeah for ST it should be fine. As would any other bank too.

I don't think those requirements apply to these a/c. Only the private banking ones afaik.

Well, as you asked. I am smoking a LavaTube Variable Voltage E-cigarette. No luck involved and no volatility. Up 60% this year and up 130% last year and up 120% the previous year. Now is this yo yoing?
If you pick the correct stocks, then this ongoing yearly profits is what you will get.
Look at the charts and tables for CML, AVI, and PSG. I have been involved with stocks since you were sucking dummies.
Don't have charts? Just ask and I will post a link.

The Post Office offers a better interest rate than both the banks you have mentioned.

I got many posts here knocking my portfolio results. Check the link and go to "Performance" and "Charts-Technical" You can change it to AVI or PSG and check the results.
The only reason I am posting this is that I started investing at age 42 and have been researching stocks and investing ever since. Do it all day and every day. If I had done so at an earlier age, I would have retired at 42. I am now 58 and have only now retired.
So take it or leave it. I am happy with my 60%+ returns. If you happy with 6% then so be it. No retirement for you.

Of course there are stocks that do well but it's near impossible to know with certainty which stocks will do well. So there is an element of risk when investing in equity that some people aren't comfortable with and there is nothing wrong with that.
