iOS 13 adoption reaches 77%

Comparing iOS and Android firmware adoption isn't apples to apples. :p

Android is a different type of product, designed for vendors to adapt it to their needs. It is not up to Google to update everybody's Android firmware.

What would be far more useful is comparing manufacturers. So Apple vs. Samsung vs. Huawei vs. Sony etc.

Meanwhile my iPad air cant be upgraded to iOS 13 because its too old (Came out in 2013).

Same thing goes for Android, the phone might be too old.

Even if not a fair comparison, Software updates from Android brands are diabolically poor after the first 6 months or so.

Google needs to take direct control of updates and allow for app based extensions to allow for unique hardware. Its not like they can go elsewhere. The app ecosystem simply does not exist elsewhere.

They would go elsewhere. Apple can exert control because only iPhones have iOS. If huge companies like Samsung can't make their firmware their own, it's not even a question that they would develop their own alternative.

Google has already made things much easier years ago with Project Treble. But the resources required to develop and test new major updates still seem beyond many manufacturers. Or rather, they use a single small team that prioritises newer hardware and they take forever to move down the line.

I don't see a problem at all here. If timely firmware updates are important to someone then they should buy devices that receive timely updates. Such as OnePlus.

Does the writer of this article have any understanding of the differences between the 2 eco-systems and their software updates process? I think they should pursue a new career path as they are not able to add any value to this one!
