iOS 6 Maps

Oh ok, that was not there the other day... They must have updated the page... On one hand, Yipee!... On the other hand, Darren, it's gonna chow ALOT of data!

How would this turn-by-turn navigation compare to Waze?
Hopefully better?

I was in the UK not long ago and sometimes we'd get to a roundabout and waze would start off with "at the roundabout" and then just stop! We got so fed up with the shoddy instructions we ended up buying skobbler. :o

As many problems (and frustrations) ios6 maps has, I am fascinated by the 3d buildings (when they actually work well)... how did they do that? Google got the community to build and texture stuff in google earth using sketchup, I dont think apple is doing it that way...

Guess its simular to the new Google 3D maps.

As per 9to5google

The last demo given at Google’s Maps event today in San Francisco provided us with a look at the next update to 3D maps. Google’s Product Manager of Google Earth Peter Birch explained it is now using “automated technology to extract 3D from aerial images.” In other words, planes equipped with Google hardware fly in tight patterns to record aerial imagery for building 3D models of the city. Google Maps’ Vice President Brian McClendon explained the process took Google many years to perfect, but the result provides more precise data and better 3D maps experience.

You can see the results already in Google Earth for iOS/Android, coming soon to the normal maps application. Traces of the new updates seen in the Android Maps updates Seen http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...-a-3d-button-an-experiments-section-and-more/

Ok - I was looking at NY - any other city is insignificant.

LOL!!!!

Well I guess they started with their home base 1st, like any company normally does. Agree that its kind of insignificant, but I also guess that they limit it for a reason as to not have bumpy roads :)

That is so awesome!

And in a few years time, they might get it right.

^ This, but honestly Apple are supposed to be known for their nitpicking and perfectionism and this is just a complete departure from this mindset. If this was Apple of old they would have spent another 2 years trialing this and fixing the issues and making sure it was ready to deploy to the market. I'm pretty sure there were a good many Apple QA staff that were not happy being pressed to release this to the public at this time.

They didn't have much option, their contract with Google expired and I am sure the terms for a 2 year extension would not have been favourable.
